About me and my therapy practice

Finding a good match for your therapist can seem daunting, especially when you find yourself in the grip of powerful feelings and are struggling to think in a useful manner. In consulting with me, I seek to offer you the benefits of my many years' experience with a sensitive and respectful approach, whether for yourself or your teenage son or daughter.

Whilst my experience and qualifications are important, real change can only happen when the meaning of your experiences is thought about carefully and respectfully, and over time healing and real change become possible.

I am a BACP Accredited psychotherapist, working as a psychodynamic practitioner primarily.  My practice is with adults and young people from age 13 up.  I have a degree (BSc(hons) 1st class) in Psychodynamic Counselling and CBT from the respected Birkbeck, University of London, as well as extensive further training in the psychodynamic approach, supervision and young people.

Areas I help with include work and school stress, social anxiety, excessive worrying, bereavement, relationship problems, low self-esteem, trauma and life transitions such as adolescence and mid-life crisis. Or maybe your concerns feel less defined such as a sense of emptiness, a feeling of not knowing who you are or having lost your way, or low mood. Let's understand you better together, and help you to find your way forward.

Practice description

My consulting room is in Surbiton where I practice in person, or I can offer online and/or phone therapy.

My first session

During our first session we will have a chance to meet and find out more about what is troubling you and what you might like to gain from psychotherapy.  It will be an opportunity to share what has been on your mind in a confidential setting.  You will get a feel of what it may be like if we decide to work together, and you can ask any questions you have of me.  During this 50 minute session we can consider the way forward.  If the therapy is for a young person, it is often desirable that the parent(s) attend for part of this session.

If you would like a telephone conversation (about 15 minutes and no charge) to find out more please get in touch.

About me and my therapy practice

Searching for a supervisor can feel like quite a daunting task, especially when considering the value you place on your work.  The importance of finding the right match cannot be understated, as collaborative and thoughtful supervision tailored to your needs can enable your best practice and professional development.

As an experienced psychodynamic practitioner my supervision is underpinned by thinking about your clients from a psychodynamic perspective, although I have extensive experience in supportive counselling and CBT.  I welcome psychodynamic counsellors as well as integrative counsellors who may be interested in thinking about their clients from a more psychodynamic perspective .  This will mean being curious about your client's inner world and the unconscious processes that play out in their lives and between you, and what they show us about your client.

The foundation of my supervisory approach is to enable growth through curiosity and understanding, so that the client may better understand their world and how they fit into it, enabling their wellbeing.  In turn this interesting endeavour can enrichen your  practice and growth as a practitioner.

I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Supervision from the Society of Analytical Psychologists.

Practice description

Normally we would work weekly or fortnightly. Supervision would either be in-person in Surbiton, online or by telephone, depending upon your preference.

My first session

We can arrange a first session where we find out more about you as a therapist, answer any questions you may have and perhaps you can present one of your clients for us to think about.  This can give a sense as to whether we feel we might be a good supervisory match.

I'm happy to have an introductory 15 minute phone call or online meeting (no charge) if you prefer.
