About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced BACP Accredited therapist practising both psychodynamic counselling and cognitive behaviour therapy from comfortable rooms in Surbiton and online.  I works with adults and young people from age 12 up who may be experiencing anxiety or low mood.

Areas I help with include work and school stress, social anxiety, excessive worrying, bereavement, relationship problems, abuse including sexual abuse, stress and mid-life crisis. Or maybe your concerns feel less defined such as a sense of emptiness, a feeling of not knowing who you are or having lost your way, or low mood. Let's try together to understand you better, and help you to find your way forward.

I am a believer in the process that unfolds in the dedicated time and space of the therapeutic process, as understanding and meaning to your experience emerges over time, and through which healing and empowerment are made possible.

Practice description

Currently I am offering online therapy through Zoom, as well as therapy in person for those people who are unable to receive therapy online.  Online therapy is proven in its effectiveness, and is allowing a bridge in therapy during these difficult times.  The session length is unchanged, and I will help you with establishing the correct therapeutic setting for online therapy, for instance video link/positioning/etc

My first session

During our first session we will have a chance to meet and find out more about what is troubling you and what you might like to gain from psychotherapy.  It will be an opportunity to share what has been on your mind in a confidential setting and to think about it together.  You will get a feel of what it may be like if we decide to work together, and you can ask any questions you have of me.  During this 50 minute session we can consider the way forward.  If the therapy is for a young person, it is often desirable that the parent(s) attend for part of this session.  Often we may continue this initial process over two sessions.
