About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome. I'm an Adult/Teen Psychotherapist and Child Play Therapist, working with adults, parents, and young people. I founded Courage2Be Counselling services to empower children, young people, and adults in overcoming mental health difficulties and trauma. I have been practicing now for 5 years.
I work from home in a calm and quiet garden setting not far from junction 11/11A of the M1 or the A505. I can offer online and face-to-face sessions and there are COVID-19 safety procedures in place.
I can also draw on therapeutic approaches including Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis, to give you a variety of ways of exploring the work. I appreciate that one approach will not fit everyone, so integrating different approaches helps to tailor the treatment specifically to you and your needs.
For Parents, Guardians and Families
Having worked with children young people and families for the past 18 years in education and care settings I now specialise in working therapeutically with parents/guardians and young people.
Whilst confidentiality always stays with the young person, caregivers can play a crucial role in their recovery, which is facilitated through a parent assessment process, phone support, guidance, and reviews throughout the therapy where necessary. I can offer creative and fun ways of working, alongside talking therapy, and for younger children, I can offer play therapy.
If you are a teen, parent, guardian, or family member who is concerned about yourself or your young person, then please check out my website for further information. I have an up-to-date enhanced DBS check and I have experience working with children in mainstream school who may be navigating suicide ideation, self-harm, bullying, ASC, Asperger's, or ADHD as well as anxiety, depression, identity worries and life stresses in general.
Navigating the rollercoaster of life can be extremely difficult and challenging. Change is no easy task when we are faced with such big emotions, negative thoughts, and complete overwhelm. Sometimes professional support is necessary to be able to see the wood for the trees. Whether you have experienced therapy before or you are new to the process, feeling safe enough to talk is key. Building a strong working foundation that enhances positive therapeutic outcomes is something that I really care about. This is one relationship where it is and can be, all about you and what you need, without any judgment. It's okay to unpack your emotional suitcase at a pace that feels comfortable for you and together we can make sense of it. Sometimes it may be hard to even pinpoint what the issue is to start with and that's also okay. We can make sense of that too, together.
My first session
Your first initial session will be more of a get-to-know-you session. We will explore a working agreement to determine how best to work together and I may ask more questions than usual to get a deeper understanding of you, the people in your life, and what you would like to achieve from therapy.
Sessions are for 60 minutes, weekly in order to build a trusting therapeutic relationship and to achieve the necessary depth needed for the work. Bi-weekly sessions are possible when we begin to plan and work towards the ending of your therapy.
If you have any further questions or you are considering therapy, then please email or message me in the first instance, where possible, to book a free 30-minute phone consultation to discuss what you are looking for and how I may be able to help.
