About me and my therapy practice

My name is Amanda Williams and I am a Registered Member of the BACP. I have extensive experience of working within the field of childhood and adult sexual violence and trauma.

I am a Humanistic therapist with extensive experience of working within the field of childhood and adult sexual violence and trauma.

Each session is guided by the needs of the client using a variety of Humanistic approaches. This include the Person-centered approach, Transactional Analysis, Solution focused therapies, Gestalt and Existential approaches.

Using a trauma informed approach, I work safely and ethically with clients and we collaborate on their challenges together.

Childhood and adult traumas affect the self-esteem and self-confidence, and can lead to lifelong effects as people struggle to cope alone. These can result in many negative effects, including  feelings of social anxiety, depression and addictions to name just a few!

The important thing for clients to know, is that therapy is a safe environment, where thoughts and feelings can be explored safely and without judgement.

Practice description

My practice is based on establishing a therapeutic relationship built on trust, honesty and mutual respect. The goal is to work together and navigate the path, where you feel understood and hopefully can see a way forward more clearly. I have a degree in Humanistic Counselling and specialise in counselling adults who have experienced the trauma of childhood and/or adult sexual abuse.

I also counsel within EAP and the NHS

My first session

The first session will be conducted Online or over the  Telephone. We will review the contract and confidentiality, and consider your expectations of therapy.

We will begin by providing a therapeutic environment for you where  safety and trust begin to be  established.

I will explain how I work and why I work that way so you understand what we are doing.
