About me and my therapy practice

I have been working as a counsellor for nearly 30 years and as a supervisor and trainer for around 25 years.

I am passionate about the person-centred way of being and my work as a practitioner is embedded within the attitudes and philosophies of the approach. I hope to offer a nurturing, collaborative and flourishing environment in which you can develop as a reflexive practitioner.

I work with qualified and trainee therapists, as well as those in other helping professions. I have offered supervision to those working in the NHS, children's charities, schools, universities, the police force, cancer charities as well as sexual violence and abuse organisations.  For the last 25 years, I have also worked as a senior lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy within local universities and colleges.

Due to my work with young people, and supervising counsellors within this sector, I am very aware of aspects relating to boundaries, the law, safe working practice and note-taking.

With a passion for learning and development, I completed an MSc in mindfulness in 2021 (first class honours -University of Aberdeen/mindfulness association) and subsequently completed my teacher training as a mindfulness teacher. Both these experiences have provided plenty of opportunity for personal insight and growth.  In relation to supervision, it has allowed me to examine how mindfulness sits within the philosophy and practice of person-centred counselling, with particular relevance to the concept of self-compassion and insight within therapeutic practice.

I have a further love of working with nature and the outdoors (whether literally or metaphorically) and believe that 'wild supervision' offers a unique and deeper understanding of self and therapeutic work.

Practice description

I generally offer monthly supervision (in line with the ethical framework). However, I am flexible within this, with awareness that some counsellors (trainees or qualified) may require more frequent supervision. We can discuss what you might need when we meet. I'll send you directions and a working agreement before our first meeting. Typically, sessions are for an hour a half but can be longer or shorter dependent on your needs.

For face-to-face sessions, I work from a lovely, private, garden office (with parking) which provides a peaceful, uninterrupted, reflective space. My garden office is five minutes walk from the bus stop.   I also offer outdoor supervision around Lancashire and provide online supervision. I am a registered member of the BACP, and work according to the BACP’s ethical framework.

The cost for an hour is £50. Missed sessions, without 48 hours notice, are charged at full rate. Some concessions are available for those on low income or students. I have full Professional Liability Insurance.

The best way to start is to come for an initial 30 minute meeting (online or face-to-face) to see if we feel we can work together. There is no charge for this initial meeting. Feel free to contact me by email, phone or text and I will get back to you to arrange this for a mutually convenient time.

Please do contact me if you wish to explore the possibility of us working together further.

About me and my therapy practice

Welcome!

I have been working as a person-centred, experiential counsellor for nearly 30 years and as a clinical supervisor and counselling trainer for around 25 years. I offer face-to-face, outdoor, online and telephone counselling.

I offer a nurturing, collaborative and flourishing therapeutic environment in which you can safely bring whatever is troubling you. I offer face-to-face, outdoor, online and telephone counselling.

My way of working  invites you to tune into your emotions, your body and your thoughts and access the wisdom that lives within you. This will in turn allow you insight into what you're experiencing and to make changes that are for your benefit.

I appreciate that considering counselling can feel daunting. So, I invite you to a free 30 minute face-to-face or online conversation to allow us to explore what you are looking for, how I work and whether we feel we are compatible.

The Indoor therapy Space

For our indoor work, my therapy room is a self-contained, quiet, healing space in South Preston. There is easy parking and I am near a main bus route.

I also offer online counselling, through zoom, and telephone counselling.

The Outdoor therapy Space

Working outdoors can be quite magical, as nature and the environment become co-facilitators in the therapeutic process. In this way of working, we can be guided by what you need in that moment - whether that's walking and talking or finding a place to sit and share. When we work in this way, I will guide you to connect with your process alongside the environment around you and how the environment may offer reflection and insight to help you with the issue you're working with.

Outdoor therapy has so many benefits and is a holistic approach to wellness. It can help ground and rebalance, enable a deeper connection with self and the environment as well as boost the immune system, lower blood pressure and improve respiratory function.

Practice description

I offer short and long term work.  We can discuss what you might be looking for in our initial meeting. This can be face-to-face or online.

If we decide to work together, I'll send you directions and a working agreement before our first session. The sessions are for an hour and are usually weekly to start. The cost is £50 a session. Missed sessions, without 48 hours notice, are charged at full rate. Some concessions are available for those on low income. I have full Professional Liability Insurance.

If you are interested in outdoor therapy, I generally allocate specific days to this and anticipate working in all seasons and virtually all weathers, recognising that there is a wealth of insight that can come through the seasons and weather. There are various meeting spaces around Lancashire, that I work from.

The best way to start is to come for an initial, 30 minute, meeting to get a sense of whether I am the right person for you. It’s a chance to talk about yourself and to explore how I might be able to help.
