About me and my therapy practice

I provide clinical supervision for groups and individual practitioners.

I've worked with teams, to understand team dynamics, address interpersonal problems and to think about the impact of external pressure and stress.

I work with qualified therapists and trainees. I aim to provide a space where client matters can be brought and considered, including any obstacles to therapy, transferential issues and new perspectives and ideas.

Practice description

I am an integratively trained psychotherapist and completed an integrative  supervision qualification that used different models and approaches for the supervision process .

I enjoy supporting therapists to think about the therapeutic work they are doing with their clients and to consider things using different lenses and perspectives. I see therapy as multi-layered and supervision as a way to sift and explore these aspects to understand what is happening for the client and what might play out in the consulting room.

I see creative approaches and critical thinking as valuable tools for psychotherapeutic work and these are often fostered when two or more minds contemplate the matters in hand.

I see supervision as a place where clinical work can develop, find direction and become enriched. Supervisees might consolidate their knowledge and experience and begin to identify their preferred ways of working aswell as their strengths and challenges.

The benefits of collaboration are well evidenced in both creative endeavours and in more structured disciplines. In the world of counselling and psychotherapy, the joint endeavour of supervision can support, illuminate, provoke and instigate. As a supervisor, I aim to provide this through active collaboration and consistent work.

I relish the challenges brought by new cases and value the privilege of doing this work. This enthusiasm and apppreciation are key to what I offer as a supervisor.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an integratively trained counsellor and psychotherapist. I am also a Psychosexual Therapist, seeing couples and individuals presenting with sexual and relationship problems.

I aim to pay close attention to what is bringing someone into therapy at this current time and what they  would like to get from the process. I generally like to know how someone envisages engaging with sessions and to understand if there is anything that might make this difficult.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I am familiar with different therapeutic approaches and will adopt one that seems most suited to who I'm working with.

As a psychosexual therapist, I remain alert to how relational and interpersonal matters affect sex and intimacy. I aim to understand the unique circumstances and history of each problem and relationship and to incorporate creativity, compassion and support in my approach.

As an individual therapist, I see clients with a range of presenting issues, including trauma, addiction, anxiety, work-stress, relationship problems, loss and bereavement. I also work with identity issues including sexuality, sense of self, understanding the negative impacts of past things and changing damaging and compulsive behaviour. I can provide support with understanding and changing long-standing and entrenched problematic and destructive patterns of behaviour.

My practice utilises psychodynamic concepts and humanistic principles to help make sense of the presenting issues, think about their impact and to find ways to move forward or reach new understandings and perspectives.

Practice description

I work in-person in SW8 and online. I will discuss what you're looking for before our first session and agree the framework in which we will work together.

I provide longer term therapeutic support, open-ended therapy and short-term and time-specific counselling. I prefer to identify and discuss reasons for therapy and any goals prior to beginning any work. These might change over the course of our sessions which I see as a collaborative, supportive and potentially changing experience.

I have experience working with teams and providing one to one support to NHS staff. I also work with individuals and groups to think about work and stress related matters and the  impact of these.

My first session

Before our first session, I offer a free of cost telephone call to discuss what you are looking for in therapy and any other relevant matters such as time, mode and cost  of session. This is to help us both decide whether to arrange an initial session.

If we do arrange a first session, it will often be an 'assessment session', where I can get a more detailed understanding of what is happening  for you and ask some questions that help me to work safely and effectively.

The first session is of course an opportunity for you to decide what you feel about working with me and if you want to continue.
