About me and my therapy practice

Life is a curious mixture. One minute you get a lemon tart with limoncello and the next you receive a pile of bitter lemons. Life is full of laughter and fun and suddenly it gets tricky and complicated. Plus, very often everything happens to us at once! And what do you do when life presents you a lemon?

Maybe you feel lost? Maybe you will feel lonely? Maybe you don’t yet know and need some time to think and figure it out? The good thing is – you don’t have to deal with it on your own, because doing it completely on your own is frustrating and tough.

Psychotherapy is here for the tough times, when life gets tricky, when things happen that are difficult to deal with or control. Things that happen in the world affect us. Things that happen to our bodies affect us. As a result, our minds, our moods and our sense of self change. Can we even separate our world from our mind and bodies? In critical times we all need help. All of us. Every single one. To suffer in silence and feel isolated – is it really worth it?

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy can help us. It is one of the original and well-respected “talking cures” – to use a famous phrase coined by a patient a very long time ago. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is many useful things but at its very foundation lies a relationship between two people; a person in therapy and their therapist. A relationship with professional boundaries but at the same time very personal and close. And that relationship is the “cure”. That and the getting to know your own mind.

Practice description

Online Therapy for Women and Therapy for People are psychotherapy services for people who find themselves in a difficult situation at a challenging time in their lives. A sudden or chronic physical illness, loss of a loved one or a major life event, followed by feelings of increased anxiety or depression.

The services provide emotional support by offering one-to-one online psychotherapy sessions. The therapy is delivered by me, Olga Utrivanova, a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist trained in London by the National Health Service (NHS) at Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.

Difficult experiences come with confusion, discomfort, physical and emotional pain. Every day men and women struggle with adversity; problems with their health, identity or fertility, relationships, work, ageing or hardship. People move and change cities and countries; others feel stuck or need to slow down in order to regain their balance - such people are welcome to get in touch with me too.

Appropriate emotional support is vital, especially around the time of change to the human mind and body; be it recovery from a critical illness, trauma or menopause. Feeling well supported mentally is important for our self-esteem and self-acceptance, so we can learn to pay attention and respect to our thoughts and feelings.

Such healthy attitudes make our internal structures stronger, build resilience and bring us relief. They are proof that we are more than a knot of our complicated symptoms and give us energy and strength to work through tricky times in our lives.

My first session

A Psychodynamic Psychotherapy session is fifty minutes long and at the moment I only work online. The sessions take place at the same time, on the same day, every week, once a week. A number of times a year I take a scheduled break that usually coincides with the national holidays in the UK and school half-terms. I will give you plenty of notice about the breaks.

Psychotherapy starts with an assessment consultation, where we meet each other for the first time online and discuss what brings you to therapy. After the initial consultation we decide on what out next step together will be. Sometimes a couple of assessment consultations are required to make a decision.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy can be:

• short-term (16 sessions)

• long-term (1 year)

• open-ended (from 1 year onwards)

• We will discuss the length of your therapy when the assessment is complete.

I work on:

• Mondays

• Tuesdays

• Wednesdays

• Thursdays

• The sessions take place on Zoom.

Please make sure you have a big screen (a computer or a laptop rather than a phone screen) and that the sound and video on your computer or laptop is of good quality to get the maximum benefit out of your therapy sessions.

I work in English and Russian.
