About me and my therapy practice

My name is Katie and I am an experienced and compassionate integrative counsellor, with a strong commitment to supporting individuals on their journey towards mental and emotional wellbeing.

I qualified in 2016, having trained within an NHS based Institute, in the therapeutic approaches of Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.  These approaches are combined and tailored to meet the unique and individual needs of my clients.

I began my counselling career as a volunteer counsellor with the charity MIND, where I was privileged to work with adults of all ages.

As well as counselling adults, I have also worked extensively with young people between the ages of 11 and 18, within local secondary schools, addressing a wide range of issues including: anxiety, bereavement, eating disorders, self-esteem, suicidal ideation, exam stress, LGBTQ+ issues, depression and trauma.

My aim is to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for my clients to explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace, in order to become less distressed, to heal from emotional wounds, and to develop resilience that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Practice description

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), and adhere to this professional body’s ethical framework.

I can provide counselling in a wide range of settings:

  - online (via Skype, Facetime or WhatsApp video).

  - telephone.

  - within a local school setting, in liaison with the school.

  - outdoor therapy (also known as “walking therapy”), using an outdoor space as a setting, such as a local park or nature reserve, we conduct the counselling session outside in nature, walking gently.

My sessions are 50 minutes long.

My first session

Beginning counselling can feel daunting, but I aim to put my clients at ease from the very first session, to create a comfortable and safe space in which to work.

In the first session I will explain how confidentiality works within counselling, answer any questions, and gently explore with the client what has brought them to seek counselling, and a little of their background and history.  We can then begin to formulate a treatment plan for counselling.
