About me and my therapy practice

I have been qualified now for over 21 years.  Here is a little about me and the way I work, and my 'potted' work history

I work predominantly from a Person Centred Counselling perspective with you the client always at the centre  of our work. Together, we will be exploring at your pace the issues which you choose to share. I will integrate tools and models which seem most appropriate for you.  Counselling is a very personal/unique experience.  I will sit along side you on this journey - long or short, while ever you require my support.

I have 6 years experience of working within the NHS as a counsellor in Rotherham IAPT Service.

I have also worked as a telephone counsellor of North Yorkshire IAPT Service.

I managed the counselling service for Rotherham & Barnsley Mind, A franchise of the national Mental Health Charity for 5 years.

From 2018 - 2024 I worked as a bereavement specialist at St Luke's Hospice in Sheffield.

I  am qualified as a counsellor for depression (CFD) and have have a Post Graduate Certificate in Supervision, as well as a certificate in Intimate Partners Therapy form the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology.

I  trained as an EMDR Therapist in 2024 with Mirabilis Health Institute - Northern Ireland.

I have also worked as a counsellor in an FE college so have experience of supporting young people.

Practice description

My P.G supervisor training was in 2011/12 with York St John University.  I work from a relational model of supervision, and use Robin Shohet - Freedom to practice, along with the 7 Seven-Eyed process model approach - Hawkins, as my core theoretical models.  I always like to be curious with the interplay between counsellor and client and explore this within supervision. I am also concerned for you, and offer time within supervision to check how you are.  That helps us to build our relationship and for me to be able to perhaps notice where your shadow/or blind spots may be.

I also supervise non-counsellors - Those who work in the helping/caring profession, or managers of services and need a little space for themselves to process the complexities of there work.

My own supervision is very cathartic and invaluable to me.  I aim to be able to offer the same to all my supervisees.

I look forward to hearing from you.

My first session

I like to offer a free 20 minute meeting for potential supervisees, which gives us both an opportunity to see if we feel we can work together.  Getting the right supervision is so important for the wellbeing of both the therapist and their clients.
