Availability
I have some availability in the afternoons and early evenings. I also hope soon to be able to offer some sessions in the EH55 area of West Lothian. I offer a limited number of concessionary sessions for lower income clients.
About me and my therapy practice
I work with a wide range of issues that men face on a daily basis e.g. low mood, anger, relationship issues etc. I'm also highly specialised in working with men wrestling with issues including violent tendencies/fantasies, sexual trauma recovery, worrying of frightening sexual interests, sexual/violent abuse perpetration, pornography issues, powerlessness, intimate partner abuse (perpetrators and/or survivors). Sessions costs £70.00 however some limited lower cost sessions are available; I try to make counselling as affordable as possible for those on the lowest incomes and can be flexible around number or length of sessions to limit the financial impact. I am currently offering a limited number of 30 minute sessions (following a 50 minute introduction) to make therapy more accessible to those on the lowest incomes. Mens' therapy groups and mixed sex groups are available. Groups for those suffering with porn addiction or other sexual issues can be arranged. I have previously provided Counselling, Psychotherapy & Clinical Supervision with Mankind UK, Sussex & Surrey Probation Service, Brighton University and Brighton & Hove Council as well as in my private practice. My practice is based in the Newington Area on Minto Street. I also taught Counselling at Brighton University, Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College. My approach is strongly informed by Psychodynamic and Person Centred theory however I believe that successful therapy is underpinned by developing a unique relationship model with each client in which the can grow into a more powerful and authentic version of themselves.
People come to therapy with goals and I keep focussed on those goals to help the clients get the growth they want. I invite clients to stay active in their growth and often encourage them to undertake tasks and exercises outwith therapy sessions however, the final word is always with the client.

Practice description
My Practice is based in South Central Edinburgh, in Newington, on Minto Street. I also hope soon to be able to offer some sessions in the EH55 area of West Lothian. I can also offer online sessions.
Due to ongoing difficulties with bank transfer payments being kept up-to-date, payment in cash, on the day, is now unfortunately non-negotiable with the exception of online work or where the session is being paid for by an external body e.g. an employer.
Please note I don't work with Health Insurance companies.
My first session
The first session is always an introductory session. It should take around an hour or so and there is only a one-off payment of £70.00 which is payable in cash at the beginning of the session.
On the day, I will take some basic information from you. We will discuss the issues you are struggling with, what your goals are for therapy and the legal limits to confidentiality. It is not a therapy session but it may have some therapeutic value. I will confirm your GP details and take emergency contact details during the session. I will not be contacting your emergency contact or GP except in extreme circumstances which we will discuss.
If we decide to work together, I will ask you to sign a contract which we will both have copies of. We will also agree the fee (usually £70.00 unless there are specific circumstances) and arrange a suitable regular timeslot for us to meet.

It is normal to feel anxious before a first session and we will look at what anxieties might be around at the beginning of the session.
