About me and my therapy practice

I am a person-centred therapist, trained at the Metanoia Institute in London, graduating in 2017. I completed placements during my training at University of East London and  Mind in Waltham Forest. I have worked in private practice since this time with adults. I work in person (not online), both long and short term.

I have also completed training in CBT-E which is aimed at helping people with binge eating. I hold a coaching certificate in the context of health coaching, recognised by the Personalised Care Institute.

Practice description

Clients generally come for weekly sessions. CBT-E is slightly different and details are on my website.

Most clients I have worked with are generally unhappy and dissatisfied with areas of their life including relationships. Anxiety and depression are common.

Person centred counselling provides an open, non-judgmental space, to explore thoughts,  feelings and behaviours. Changes tend to occur as a result.

Sessions are generally directed by the client - they decide what to talk about. I do have materials available if clients want to express themselves by drawing, in addition to talking.

I am a white female, in my early 50s, and do my best to provide a calm,  reliable and kind therapeutic atmosphere.

I am not religious but am very open and respectful of other's beliefs. I have worked with clients from different backgrounds - class,  ethnicity etc. I try to acknowledge difference and be aware of any actual or perceived power imbalance.

My first session

First session is a consultation. More focused around client explaining what they are looking for, me answering any questions, and seeing whether we are a potentially good fit. Discussing times and availability.

I usually suggest clients arrange this single session and then have a think if they would like to continue by arranging a further fixed number of sessions. Usually clients will arrange  7 sessions, and then decide whether they would like more.
