About me and my therapy practice
Difficult experiences in childhood can result in feeling lost, worried, or low in adulthood. It can also result in the thinking that you don’t know who you really are or that you are an imposter in your own life. If any of this sounds familiar, I can support you to make the difficult memories easier to cope with and build a more meaningful and content life.
Since 2019, in my practice, I have been helping people move on from these distressing experiences including:
· Abuse including emotional abuse, neglect, physical abuse, or sexual abuse
· Difficult family dynamics or relationships
· Loss and bereavement
· Bullying at school or in the home
· Taking on adult responsibilities too early in life
· The repression of needs, wants, and feelings within the family
There are various ways these experiences can change and impact people. As well as feeling lost, worried, or low some people have problems with their relationships. Or perhaps you feel you have patterns that don’t serve you such as people pleasing, self-criticism or making yourself small. People who have been in this situation may feel a strong sense of panic or isolation. Early life difficult experiences can also cause unexplained physical symptoms such as headaches, issues with digestion, or trouble sleeping. I am happy to say that it is possible to move forward into a brighter future with the right counselling.
Practice description
I know that it isn’t easy to talk about these difficult experiences, so we go at a pace that is right for you. I also work in a trauma-informed way which means that I can help you to feel safer in your nervous system before processing any difficult memories. Here are some of the other ways I support and help my clients to move forward with their lives:
· Simply talking through what has happened and the feelings you now have.
· Using creativity including art, writing and visualisations.
· I can help you work towards being in the present rather than in the past or future.
· I work somatically so I can help you to process difficult feelings trapped in the body.
· I can help you work with your inner child so that they feel valued and supported.
· I can help you identify and change patterns in relationships including family, friends, and work life.
· I use Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Regulation Therapy (EMDR). This is a method of bringing together past, present and future to help process memories. I would not use this type of therapy unless we had discussed it in advance. Please contact me if you have any questions about this therapy.
Taking the next step
I offer a 15 minute online or telephone consultation to see if my counselling might be suitable. Please contact me to arrange this.
