About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Pauline and I am a qualified counsellor and registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy). I am naturally warm and empathetic, I will provide you with a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space to talk through whatever is troubling you in your life.
I have my own experience of mental health issues and know the impact it can have on all areas of life including physical health. It wasn't until I went to counselling myself that I learned that it is ok not to be ok - all those times when I'd replied "I'm ok" to that age old question, "how are you?" When really there were times I was barely functioning, but I'd put on a mask and carry on.
In the counselling relationship, it is a relationship of equals built on trust and I will work alongside you to help you make sense of your thoughts and feelings, whilst keeping you safe.
From 2019 to February 2023, alongside my private practice, I was a volunteer counsellor for a local mental health charity in Wiltshire. I now volunteer for a charity in Guildford.
Practice description
My counselling approach is based upon integrative counselling and is primarily non-directive, based upon the person centred approach. I believe counselling enables you to reflect upon yourself and your difficulties. I offer you a safe environment where you can choose which issue you wish to work on and to take the lead in exploring what it is that troubles you. It is my role to empower you to trust and believe in yourself.
In September I start a Level 6 Trauma course, to enable me to support those who have experienced trauma. If you feel I might be the right counsellor for you, please get in touch.
I offer online and face to face sessions
My first session
I offer all new clients a 30 minute session, free of charge .
This enables you to:
- meet and become familiar with me and experience what it feels like to talk with me, to find out if you are comfortable doing so
- to discuss your support needs and how I might meet them
You are then able to make an informed decision as to whether working together is right for you. If you feel you would like to proceed from there , we will would engage in sessions held at the same time each week
