About me and my therapy practice

Working exclusively with (in)fertility, IVF, and all matters of fertility impairment, I walk alongside my clients no matter where they are emotionally at any stage of their journey. Together we will pursue your fears and anxieties that perhaps have impacted your lifelong dream of parenthood. My counselling work is dedicated entirely and solely to working in the therapeutic relationship with clients living with/suffering with their unique and individual (in)fertility issues.

Whether you, as a woman have been diagnosed with (in)fertility due to medical checks resulting in lack of regular ovulation, endometriosis, or damaged fallopian tubes. Or a man, who has had a medical test result of (in)fertility caused by low semen grade or motility. Or you might be a couple/same-sex couple struggling to fulfil your dreams of parenthood. Or perhaps a diagnosis of unexplained infertility has been given (a medical diagnosis given to couples from 1950 to date, following an elimination of all other medical reasons for (in)fertility, such as semen analysis, tubal barriers or blockages, and ovulation investigations). I am experienced in working with all of these...

Practice description

In Therapy with Marie

A space to know that you are not alone.

A space to honour grief. A space to find hope.

Supporting individuals, couples, families and workshop groups navigate all that is entailed in living with and working through fertility issues.

(In)fertility is becoming one of the most critical endemic conditions, now affecting fifteen to twenty percent of couples across the globe, and yet while its medically prescribed treatment, In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), is so widely statistically researched, the ‘emotional rollercoaster’ of (in)fertility and lack of psychological support remains under-researched.

The reason why I am committed to working exclusively with clients struggling with fertility issues. Wherever you might be in this difficult process of living with fertility impairment or a diagnosis of (in)fertility in this sometimes, isolated environment, my message to you is: ‘you are not alone’. It is an honour for me to work through this alongside you.

My passion for working with and honouring my clients' disenfranchised grief and emotions relating to (in)fertility originated from my own lived experiences  of being diagnosed with 'unexplained infertility' (UI) that lead to twelve years in and out of medical intervention. Hence, the reason I believe so strongly in walking through and exploring ‘each and every’ one of my client’s unique experiences of living with (in)fertility. Since I work exclusively within this topic, I feel well-situated to delve into any aspect and stage of your journey with you.

Working with and researching the topic of (in)fertility psychologically from both the perspectives of a qualified counsellor and as a PhD researcher allows me the privilege of exploring the ‘untold’ stories of my clients in confidence, in a trusted environment.

Whichever situation you unexpectedly find yourself in, we will work together in navigating this distressing turn of events.

My first session

In our first session we will explore your goals, options, and dreams together, discuss and decide on the trusted space in which to voice your emotions around receiving this life changing realisation that can bring about feelings of disenfranchised loss, a grief that can be prolonged, complex, and confusing.

Whether it be enduring critical cycles, such as IVF treatments, miscarriage or how this new path of fertility impairment has affected your relationships, your wellbeing, your job, your finances, your marriage or partnership, and other aspects of your life; all extremely difficult to adjust to, to say the least! We will discuss the best way forward in working towards unpacking and working through these challenges, identifying limiting beliefs, realising the possibility of “reflective exploration and a search for meaning in experience”, and how we might move towards the search and desire to feel whole again, in whichever path you decide upon.
