About me and my therapy practice

Life can sometimes not turn out you way you hoped or expected. We can begin to feel really low and experience feelings of anxiety following a difficult time in our lives, or maybe we won't really understand why we feel the way we do.  These feelings can impact our ability to function and can leave us feeling isolated and miserable. We may experience a disconnection from those things and people that once brought us joy and fall back on unhelpful patterns of behaviour. This can happen to an individual or within an intimate relationship.

As an integrative, therapeutic counsellor, I know that by exploring our thoughts and feelings, we can change and understand ourselves more deeply.  My aim will be to try to help you to dig down into what you are experiencing. Working with me will enable you to explore in a non judgemental, empathetic and safe place for you to process your feelings. Together, we will work to expose your motivations and goals, enabling change and acceptance to take place. It is a process that can feel challenging at first, but many clients report feeling “lighter” after their initial session. There is something truly special about being able to hold space for someone why focus entirely themselves

I use an integrative approach to counselling and psychotherapy and this means that I may draw upon more than one theory throughout our work together.  Therapy is not a one size fits all process: what works for one person in may not be the best approach for someone else. My integrative model of counselling allows therapy to be flexible and adaptable in line with each client’s personal needs and expectations.

Finding a good fit for you as a client is crucial, as the relationships between client and therapist is so very important. Initially, I would encourage you email me so that we can arrange an initial chat, to help you decide whether I am the right therapist for you.

Practice description

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I am qualified in the following:

Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, CPCAB

Level 3 Certificate in Counselling, CPCAB

Level 2 Certificate in Counselling, CPCAB

Certificate of Proficiency BACP

I have worked with adults, young adults and couples and with a wide variety of issues, including depression, anxiety and bereavement, both in agencies and private practice. I have worked with both small and large businesses, supporting staff . I have worked with young people both in private practice and in sixth form colleges, to explore issues around sexuality and gender. I have worked with victims of sexual assault, providing place of safety for longer term exploration. I also have worked with those going through cancer treatment, for whom concessions are available.

In terms of relationship or couples work, I can provide a safe space for both parties to engage, which sometimes can seem impossible to find outside of the therapy room.

Therapy can also be undertaken if only one party wants to undertake the work. We will explore the relationship, free from judgement or blame. I provide a unique space, separate from the rest of your life and from individuals in your life, where you can begin to unravel, engage with and explore the situation that are going on. In allowing yourself this space and time, you can begin to make sense of the situation and how you feel about it. Doing this exploratory work can lead to an understanding of certain emotions and perhaps consequently to certain behavior patterns

As a couple, equally we can uncover and work on the dynamics between you and your partner, with a view to better understanding each other. Through relationship therapy you have the opportunity to explore the areas that most trigger your unwanted and unsatisfying thoughts, feelings and behaviours, which will often surface in conflict, irritation or anger.
