About me and my therapy practice

Thanks for visiting my profile, I hope you find this information useful in deciding whether I might be the right therapist to work with you.

Often people come to therapy because they feel like something is not working. It could be do with relationships, work or another aspect of life. As a humanistic counsellor, I see my role as supporting you in a non-judgemental way to explore the issues you are bringing, in order to see more clearly what you want and the options you have.

Sometimes therapy is more about having a safe and supportive place just to talk and be heard. You may feel as though you are stuck or lost, unable to see a way through. Perhaps you have experienced a traumatic event which you are struggling to cope with, or difficult childhood experiences may be resurfacing.

In therapy, I aim to create a holding space where you can feel heard and understood, as well as explore your approach to life and relationships. Only by accepting where we are can we start to see the way things can be different, and having someone there to support with that journey is how I see my role as a therapist.

Practice description

We often make assumptions about what we can expect from our lives and relationships based on experiences we may not have been in control of in childhood. We may go on to apply these stories in adult life without reflecting on whether they still make sense to us.

We have all been affected by the conditions we grew up in, both on the level of our families, institutions and society as a whole. This might mean having experienced discrimination, violence or abuse based on gender, race or sexuality. In my approach, I acknowledge that these factors will affect our experiences both as a client and a therapist and therefore are relevant to our work.

I began to train as a counsellor after five years working in domestic and sexual violence support services, and I bring this specialist insight into my counselling practice. I also volunteered as a counsellor at the LGBTQIA charity MindOut for over two years and I have extensive experience working with gender, sexual and relationship diversity.

My first session

The first session is used as a consultation and is usually 60 minutes. This gives us time to discuss the issues that are bringing you to therapy in more depth and see if we are a good fit to work together.

After the consultation, all future sessions are 50 minutes and are weekly, at the same time each week. The consultation session is charged at the same rate as ongoing therapy, which is £70. Limited concession spaces are available, please email me to discuss.
