About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Paul
I am a qualified BACP registered Psychotherapeutic counsellor based in Milnthorpe and Kendal, working with a broad range of clients and issues. I offer both short-term and open-ended counselling to individuals online, via Zoom, in person indoors, or working in my outdoor therapeutic space.
Deciding to see a therapist can be a difficult decision but a courageous first step in seeking support. You maybe feeling anxious or depressed, struggling with difficult life events or perhaps there are difficulties in your relationships.
My role as a therapist is to facilitate a safe and non-judgemental environment for you to be you. My role is not to provide answers but to ask questions that help you expand your capacity to relate differently to yourself and to those around you.
I enjoy working outdoors, working with nature as a co- therapist to help process personal struggles through metaphors found in the ‘living third’.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is the most important factor in determining a positive therapeutic outcome.
My core training as been in Transactional Analysis (T.A) and my approach is to work collaboratively with you, to meet your needs. I draw on a range of theories and techniques to help you gain understanding of how your past may be affecting your current situation, as well as how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours may be impacting you in the here and now. Everyone is individual and the work we do together would be unique to you, working with your needs, at your pace.
Practice description
I offer weekly 50-minute sessions in person either from a therapy room in Kendal, online via Zoom or within 2 designated walk and talk places around Kendal. I can also offer an outdoor therapy space at my home.
I work individually with adolescents, adults and older adults. I see clients weekly and we can decide together the best way to work for you.
My first session
Choosing a therapist is a very personal decision.
We begin with an initial, free 20 minute phone call which allows me to better understand your concerns. This also provides you with an opportunity to get to know me and my approach and for us to see if we can work together. It is important that you feel comfortable, that we could be a good fit and I am the right therapist for you.
Following this the first session can be arranged, meeting either face-to-face or online to discuss what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to achieve from our sessions together. You will have the opportunity during this session to ask any questions and discuss expectations, ensuring you feel comfortable and happy with moving forward together and that I can best support you in achieving your goals.
