About me and my therapy practice
Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, and I understand that it isn’t always easy to ask for support. My aim is to make that first step feel as comfortable as possible by offering a warm, compassionate and confidential space where you can talk openly and be yourself, without fear of judgement.
As an integrative counsellor, I tailor therapy to your individual needs, recognising that every person and every experience is unique.
Together, we will explore whatever has brought you to counselling at a pace that feels right for you. Each session will be guided by what you bring and what feels most important at that time. Some sessions may focus on exploring thoughts, emotions or past experiences, while others may involve developing practical strategies or celebrating the progress you are making.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and we will regularly review how our work is progressing to ensure it continues to meet your needs.
I believe that feeling heard, understood and accepted is at the heart of meaningful change. My role is not to judge, advise or tell you what to do, but to listen with empathy, support you in gaining greater self-awareness and help you discover your own strengths and resources.
Whether you are seeking short-term support around a specific issue or longer-term therapy for deeper exploration, I will work alongside you with warmth, honesty and respect, helping you move towards positive and lasting change
Practice description
I work with adults aged 18 and over, offering counselling in a calm and comfortable therapy room in Bangor, County Down, as well as online and by telephone throughout the UK. Whether you’re looking for support with a specific difficulty or simply want the space to understand yourself better, I offer therapy that is tailored to your individual needs and goals.
My practice supports people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, life transitions and feelings of being overwhelmed. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Sometimes people come simply because they want to understand themselves better, improve their relationships or make positive changes in their lives.
I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling, depending on your needs. Sessions last 50 minutes and are tailored to your individual goals, with regular opportunities to review how our work is progressing.
My aim is to provide a professional, compassionate and confidential service where you feel respected, supported and able to explore whatever is important to you. Together, we will work towards helping you gain greater understanding, build resilience and move towards the changes that matter most to you.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss whether counselling with me is the right fit, I would be pleased to hear from you.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call for anyone who would like the opportunity to ask questions before booking. This is an opportunity for us to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, answer any questions you may have and explore whether I am the right person to support you.
Your first counselling session is slightly different from ongoing sessions, as it gives us the opportunity to get to know one another and build a foundation for our work together. We will go through the counselling agreement, discuss confidentiality, complete some initial assessment questions and explore what has brought you to counselling. We will also begin to identify what you hope to achieve through therapy and discuss how we might work towards your goals.
There is no expectation for you to share everything in the first session. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and you are free to ask questions at any stage. If appropriate, we may also begin therapeutic work during this session
