About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor offering online and telephone counselling to adults 18-80+.

In my private practice I specialise in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD) and longer term counselling. I also work with trainee/ student counsellors wanting ongoing counselling sessions for the duration of their course and placements (offering discounted rates).

I describe my approach as Humanistic at core, with the ability to adapt to meet the individual needs of different clients.

PCE-CfD - Person Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression is an evidence-based, NICE recommended response to depression. It is based on a person-centred, experiential model and the aim is to help you make sense of underlying feelings, reflect on them, and move towards behavioural and psychological change. It is a non-directive approach, which focuses on your emotions and has proved helpful for a range of different issues and difficulties; not just depression.

For Trainee/ Student Counsellors: I understand that personal therapy is an essential part of many counselling courses and fundamental in the development of any future counsellor. I aim to provide a safe, non-judgemental, confidential and emotionally supportive space to help you to gain insight and reflect on anything that personally resonates or impacts you throughout the duration of your course and whilst on placement:

  •  any unresolved issues from your past
  • any ‘blind spots’ you may have
  •  any impact on/from your personal relationships and home life
  • ensure you are able to recognise and separate your own personal issues from those of your clients
  • ensure you will be able to stay more present and focused with your clients
  • explore how your theoretical training relates to/impacts you.

I have specialist qualifications and experience gained in:

  • Brief Solutions Focused counselling in a University student counselling service
  • Time limited counselling (in an NHS Iapt service)
  • Alcohol and Substance Misuse counselling in a community drug and alcohol service and rehabilitation home)
  • Risk management and Safeguarding

Practice description

My approach has Humanistic values at the core, but I am used to adapting to meet the needs of individuals from a range of backgrounds. I am familiar with different supervision models and have worked with counsellors from different counselling modalities.  I have supervised counsellors working with young adults in FE and HE, counsellors in healthcare services and lone therapists in private practice.

I view supervision with experienced practitioners, as a collaborative relationship;  where we will work together to discuss, challenge, question, reflect and facilitate continued professional growth and development, for the benefit of you and your clients.

I offer online and telephone supervision and can be flexible to suit your needs - some supervisees like one 90 minute session monthly, others like an hour twice a month.

£60 for 60 minute session  / £90 for 90 minute session

My first session

Following an initial telephone conversation I suggest that in order for us to see if our working styles / modalities are compatible we commit to at least 3 sessions to see how we work together and whether or not you feel comfortable and confident continuing the relationship.

In the first session we can spend time considering together what you hope for, need and want from supervision, any external or specific considerations, and to agree a working contract.
