About me and my therapy practice

Struggling to cope or feeling overwhelmed? As a BACP-registered integrative counsellor, I combine talking, creative, and behavioural therapies to help adults and children build resilience and find clarity.

Taking the first step can feel daunting, but you do not have to navigate this alone. Whether you are seeking therapy for yourself or your child, I am here to help.

I offer a free initial 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs and ensure we are the right fit. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24–48 business hours

Life can get heavy, and sometimes it feels impossible to cope on your own.

It can feel overwhelming, leaving you feeling isolated, conflicted, stressed, emotionally exhausted and unable to cope with everyday situations, you do not have to navigate them alone.

As a registered BACP member and the founder of Cardiff Counselling Ltd, I provide a safe, confidential, and deeply supportive space where both adults and children can explore their challenges. Whether you are seeking therapy as a private individual or looking to access support through your company's employee HR/EAP services, I am here to help you find a way forward.

I practice an integrative approach to therapy, seamlessly blending traditional talking therapy with creative techniques and behavioural therapy. Because no two clients are the same, this allows me to tailor our sessions uniquely to you. Together, we will look at your difficulties, relationships, and coping mechanisms. Using a solution-focused approach, I will help you gain clarity, build problem-solving skills, and set practical goals. My ultimate aim is to help you develop the autonomy and resilience needed to create positive, lasting change.

Practice description

Hi, my name is Ruth. I am a fully qualified practitioner and have been in continuous practice since 2010. After over a decade of working with various mental health organisations and charities, I established my independent practice Cardiff Counselling in 2014 and more recently working under Cardiff Counselling Ltd full time in 2025.

My therapeutic approach is enriched by a strong foundational background in education, behaviour modification, and behaviour therapy. This includes a Postgraduate qualification in Education and Training, alongside six years of intensive clinical experience working at a dedicated behavioural treatment centre in the United States.

I established Cardiff Counselling Ltd, to provide and I continue to provide therapeutic support for adults through a work placed Employee Assistance Program, whilst also accepting self-referral via the counselling directory, Bacp and Cardiff Counselling website www.cardiffcounselling.cymru

Alongside building my private practice, I spent 11 years working for a specialist children’s mental health charity. This dual experience allows me to expertly support children, young people, and adults through a diverse range of complex life challenges.

Areas of expertise with adults include:

• Depression, anxiety, panic, and chronic stress

• Substance misuse (drugs and alcohol)

• Trauma, sexual assault, and emotional breakdowns

• Grief, bereavement, and coping with major health issues

• Redundancy, career transitions, and relationship breakdowns

• ADHD, ADD, and Autism support

Areas of expertise with children and young people include:

• Behavioural problems, ADHD, ADD, and Autism support

• Bereavement, grief, and coping with parental divorce

• Physical abuse, sexual abuse, and trauma recovery

• Self-harm, drug misuse, and navigating gang culture

• Loneliness, friendship difficulties, and sexual identity

Please feel free to use the free initial phone consultation, to reach out when you are read.

My first session

I practice an integrative approach to therapy. This means I am led entirely by your needs, seamlessly blending a person-centred foundation with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and creative play therapy.

Our very first session will always begin with a gentle initial assessment. Together, we will explore what brings you to counselling, identify your current coping strategies, and discuss your personal goals for positive change.

Throughout our time together, your autonomy is paramount. I work collaboratively alongside my clients to help them grow, build emotional resilience, and effectively manage and overcome debilitating symptoms of anxiety and depression.
