About me and my therapy practice
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I adapt the therapeutic approaches I use to meet your needs. I qualified over 13 years ago and have experience of working within the NHS in a Community Mental Health Team as well as running my private practice for 5 years.
I have recently relocated from Bingham, Nottinghamshire to the Western Isles and previously to that I worked in Caithness so am accustomed to working in remote communities, urban settings as well as via online.
My specialities include trauma, neurodiversity, chronic illness, addiction/alcoholism and female-specific issues such as fertility and menopause.
I work in a relational way as evidence consistently shows the relationship between the client and therapist is the most important factor in successful therapy. I believe you are the expert in you and my role is to enable you to identify and address barriers that maybe preventing you from finding peace and joy.
Prior to qualifying I worked for the Nottingham Alcohol and Drug Team, Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust as a drug/alcohol clinical specialist after qualifying for my first degree in Social Work.
This led me to move into psychotherapy as I wanted to support clients with their mental health in a more effective manner.
I have personal experience of addiction and recovery as well as autism and chronic health issues.
Practice description
I offer a free 20 minute informal session for you to get a feel for me and how I work as well as offering you the opportunity to have any questions answered.
If you decide to continue then we will usually meet weekly, at least for the first 6 sessions and then review progress at that point.
Some clients find that they need further support and we can discuss what that looks like. Therapy can be short-term or even ongoing as a way of incorporating self-care for mental health.
I will provide you with a clear contract with details outlining the above as well as information about missed sessions etc.
I have regular supervision but discuss my work in a way that maintains your confidentiality.
