As a registered member, you’ll be aligned to column A in the SCoPEd framework as our registered membership category already aligns to the column A competences and practice standards.
You don’t need to do anything at this stage, and you’ll still be able to:
- provide all the services you currently do
- practise competences in other SCoPEd columns providing you have the right skills, knowledge, training and experience to do so
This is in line with our existing Ethical Framework, which states that BACP members must work within the limits of their competence.
Applying to become a BACP accredited member
If you meet the eligibility criteria and wish to apply to become an accredited member, and therefore be aligned to SCoPEd column B, you can:
- apply for accreditation during our SCoPEd transition period, which begins in February 2024 and will last for two years
To apply for individual accreditation during the transition period via our temporary mechanism, you’ll need to meet all of the existing eligibility criteria which covers training, supervised practice and supervision requirements for individual accreditation, which are not changing. You’ll also need to submit evidence of your reflective practice. You can find more about the eligibility requirements and criteria on our transition mechanisms page.
Whichever route you choose, there will be no change to the application fee – it will remain as £230 – and financial support is available for eligible members.
We held an online event on Friday 1 September to outline the temporary mechanisms that will be effective during the transition period and to answer any member questions. This is available to view on our on-demand web page.
Looking ahead
Following the transition period, which is expected to finish in early 2026, all our membership category entry requirements will be fully aligned to the standards of the SCoPEd framework columns.
New accreditation routes to move between membership categories will be available at this point. These routes will consider training and CPD alongside other existing skills and experience. More details will be published in due course.
