About me and my therapy practice
I am a Psychodynamic & CBT therapist. This combination of insight and action works well, with panic and anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, feeling stuck, and making changes. I have an LGBTQ+ affirmative approach and respect every individual's chosen identity as equal and valid.
I find this approach enables me to work with you at depth for greater understanding, as well helping to address issues in the here and now to be able to feel more in control. Finding the right fit is important, I offer 20 minute free initial phone or video consultations to allow us to meet and see if I am the right therapist for you.
Every person’s journey through therapy is unique and therapy is a collaborative undertaking. At the core of this, is the client-therapist relationship.
My theoretical approach is Psychodynamic; I believe we have a rich unconscious world that exists just out of awareness and influences much of what we do. I work with clients to bring this into awareness. Difficulties in current relationships can often be understood through recognising the influence of our internal ways of working, and the past.
I have additional trainings in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Family Theory, Creative Communication, and Working Online. I adopt a cross-modality therapeutic approach, using what works to fit your needs and to facilitate deeper understanding of the self as a route to mental wellbeing.
I am a BACP and UKCP accredited Psychotherapist and a registered member of ACTO, the association for online therapists. I am a Senior Associate at The Therapy Clinic, located in Poet's Corner, Hove. I work with clients for short-term and long-term contracts, dependent on their needs. I practice face-to-face counselling in Brighton & Hove and work online using email, live chat, and video. I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor.
I work online, using Zoom video conferencing software, from my home office. My online practice is confidential and secure and I work to provide a comparable service to face to face therapy, just without the added considerations of time travelling to and from appointments, and the convenience of being able to have therapy from your location.
I also work face to face from The Therapy Clinic in Hove. This is a therapy clinic with purpose built therapy rooms where I work alongside a team of other professionals.
My first session
A first session is a chance for us to meet and see if we can work together. In a first session I will ask you some questions to help me get a sense of you, and what has bought you to therapy. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me about therapy, and for us together to come up with some ideas of what you want to get from the work.
This could be anything from a specific goal, to something more general, or perhaps we might learn that we cannot yet answer that question, and therapy is more of an exploration and journey into enquiry. I'll do my best to lay out all that I think you might need to know about therapy, and about me, to help you decide if I am a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you.
