About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist offering remote sessions during the Covid-19 pandemic.  The issues I can help with include anxiety, depression, relationship problems, family issues and both past and recent trauma.  I see adults of all ages who need help with a particular area of their lives, or who might feel they have lost a sense of direction.  It may be that a past trauma has resurfaced or that they have been struggling for years with issues that will not go away.

WHAT IS PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps you move forward partly through a better understanding of how the present has been shaped by past experiences and relationships.  You may keep repeating destructive patterns in your life but not know why.  Making sense of both your present and your past together can bring relief and help you to feel more creative and hopeful for the future.

TRUST

I aim to build a trusting relationship in which you feel able to talk about things you may never have talked about before.  I treat all problems clients bring with respect and in confidence.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - WPF Therapy, validated by Roehampton University.  WPF Therapy is one of the leading trainings in the UK for psychodynamic therapists, providing an in-depth four-year training accredited by the BPC and BACP.

Honorary Psychotherapist - NHS.  Several years experience working with patients with complex issues.

I am registered with both the BPC and the BACP  and abide by the Ethical standards of these organisations.

I regularly update my knowledge through seminars, conferences and workshops.  Recent workshops have focused on eating disorders, working with the couple relationship and working with trauma and dissociation.

WHAT IS PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Many people are experiencing anxiety or depression as a result of the current pandemic, while for others existing or underlying problems now feel more pressing.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps you move forward partly through a better understanding of how your present issues have been shaped by past experiences and relationships.  You may keep repeating destructive patterns in your life but not know why.  Making sense of both your present and your past together can bring relief and help you to feel more creative and hopeful for the future.

TRUST

I aim to build a trusting relationship in which you feel able to talk about things you may never have talked about before without fear of being judged.  I treat all problems clients bring with respect and in confidence.

Practice description

My therapy room is spacious and airy and is in a calm and secure environment.  The building is only used by other counsellors and psychotherapists and their clients.

During this period of the Covoid-19 crisis I am working with clients either on the phone or via Skype or Zoom until such a time as we are able to meet again in person.  If you choose to start therapy at this time we will discuss how this can be done securely so that confidentiality is maintained.

My first session

My approach is to offer two initial sessions a week apart, (each lasting 50 minutes) which together make up the Initial Consultation.

This will give time for us to explore together what the current issue or issues are which bring you to therapy.  I will also ask you about some of the important relationships and experiences in your life and we may start to think about how these have impacted on you, always paying attention to what you feel comfortable to talk about at this point.

Having two sessions allows time for reflection in between the sessions.  Although some people opt for further assessment sessions, many feel that they have had enough of a sense of me as a therapist and of how psychodynamic therapy works to know if they want to continue.

Whether or not you decide to continue with sessions, everything you tell me will be in confidence.  If you do not feel that my approach is right for you I am happy to discuss other options with you.
