About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced individual and couple psychodynamic psychotherapist. I am working remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic, via Zoom, Skype or phone.

The main area of difficulty that people bring to therapy is to do with relationships, which might be problems relating to others or how they see themselves. Couples may want therapy because of entrenched arguments or a realisation that they are stuck in an unhealthy way of relating among other issues. Individuals often feel unhappy in themselves or misunderstood by others, or perhaps there is a particular problem with family, friends, work or romantic relationships.

WHAT IS PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy, with couples and individuals takes account of your whole history and how it may have shaped your current issues. You may be aware that you are repeating destructive patterns in your life but not know why. Making sense of your present and your past together can bring relief and help you to feel more creative and hopeful for the future.

TRUST

I aim to build a trusting relationship in which you feel able to talk about things you may never have talked about before without fear of being judged. I treat all problems clients bring with respect and in confidence.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - WPF Therapy, Roehampton University. 4 year training.

Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy with Couples - Tavistock and Portman - 2 year training.

Honorary Psychotherapist - NHS. 3 years working with patients with complex issues.

I am registered with both the BPC and the BACP and abide by the Ethical standards of these organisations.

Practice description

My therapy room is spacious and airy and is in a calm and secure environment.  The building is only used by other counsellors and psychotherapists and their clients.

During this period of the Covoid-19 crisis I am working with clients either on the phone or via Skype or Zoom until such a time as we are able to meet again in person.  If you choose to start therapy at this time we will discuss how this can be done securely so that confidentiality is maintained.

I am happy to continue to work on Zoom with clients who prefer this way of working.  However I will also return to seeing clients face-to-face when this becomes possible.

My first session

My approach is to offer two initial sessions a week apart, (each lasting 50 minutes) which together make up the Initial Consultation.

This will give time for us to explore together what the current issue or issues are which bring you (and your partner) to therapy.  I will also ask you about some of the important relationships and experiences in your life and we may start to think about how these have impacted on you, always paying attention to what you feel comfortable to talk about at this point.

Whether or not you decide to continue with sessions, everything you tell me will be in confidence.  If you do not feel that my approach is right for you I am happy to discuss other options with you.

Practice description

Currently I am working on Zoom during the pandemic with both individuals and couples.  Some clients prefer to have sessions on the phone.

While meeting in person is usually felt to be the better option, most people are surprised at how quickly they feel comfortable with this way of working.  Remote sessions can even bring benefits for many who might not be able to access therapy otherwise.

My therapy room is in a quiet pedestrian-only square on the borders of Farringdon and Islington.

My first session

Whether you are seeking therapy as an individual or a couple I suggest we start with 2 sessions as an assessment for how therapy works and whether this way of working feels helpful for you.

Sessions are usually 50 minutes for both individuals and couples.

Some couples opt to come for 1 hour sessions.

Fees

My usual fees are :  Individual £65-£75

                                  : Couple £85-£95

The fee will be discussed in the first session and will depend on a number of factors.  I hold some low cost spaces for students and those on low incomes.
