About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced individual and couple psychodynamic psychotherapist.

The main area of difficulty that people bring to therapy is to do with relationships; both with others and the relationship they have with themselves. Couples may want therapy because of an inability to solve arguments between them or a realisation that they are stuck in an unhealthy way of relating. Individuals often seek therapy because of feelings of being misunderstood or of loneliness and not being able to connect with others, or perhaps a particular problem with family or romantic relationships.

WHAT IS PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy, with couples and individuals takes account of your whole history and how it may have shaped your current issues.  You may be aware that you are repeating destructive patterns in your life but not know why.  Making sense of your present and your past together can bring relief and help you to feel more creative and hopeful for the future.

TRUST

I aim to build a trusting relationship in which you feel able to talk about things you may never have talked about before without fear of being judged.  I treat all problems clients bring with respect and in confidence.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - WPF Therapy, Roehampton University.  4 year training.

Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy with Couples - Tavistock and Portman - 2 year training.

Honorary Psychotherapist - NHS.  3 years working with patients with complex issues.

I am registered with both the BPC and the BACP and abide by the Ethical standards of these organisations.

Practice description

My therapy room is in a quiet pedestrian Square on the borders of Farringdon, Clerkenwell and Islington. The building is only used by other therapists and their clients. Covid secure policies have been followed throughout the pandemic and those attending the practice are still encouraged to wear masks in the general areas.

Remote therapy via Zoom or phone can be the first choice for some couples or individuals. This may be because of busy schedules, living in a remote area or abroad, or because they feel more comfortable talking in this way. If you choose remote therapy then this will be via a secure link and I make sure that confidentiality is maintained.

My first session

Whether you are seeking therapy as an individual or a couple I suggest we start with 2 sessions as an assessment for how therapy works and whether this way of working feels helpful for you.

Sessions are usually 50 minutes for both individuals and couples.

Some couples opt to come for 1 hour sessions.

Fees

My usual fees are :  Individual £65-£75

                                  : Couple £85-£95

The fee will be discussed in the first session and will depend on a number of factors.  I hold some low cost spaces for students and those on low incomes.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced individual and couple psychodynamic psychotherapist. I see clients in person in Godalming and in Clerkenwell London, and I also offer remote therapy via Zoom or phone.

The main area of difficulty that people bring to therapy is to do with relationships, which might be problems relating to others or how they see themselves. Couples may want therapy because of entrenched arguments or a realisation that they are stuck in an unhealthy way of relating among other issues. Individuals often feel unhappy in themselves or misunderstood by others, or perhaps there is a particular problem with family, friends, work or romantic relationships.

Practice description

My therapy room is spacious and airy and is in a calm and secure therapy practice.  The building is only used by other counsellors and psychotherapists and their clients.

My approach is to offer two initial sessions a week apart, (each lasting 50 minutes) which together make up the Initial Consultation.

This will give time for us to explore together what the current issue or issues are which bring you (and your partner) to therapy.  I will also ask you about some of the important relationships and experiences in your life and we may start to think about how these have impacted on you, always paying attention to what you feel comfortable to talk about at this point.

Whether or not you decide to continue with sessions, everything you tell me will be in confidence.  If you do not feel that my approach is right for you I am happy to discuss other options with you.
