About me and my therapy practice
I am an eating disorder specialist therapist, helping clients recover from anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia and binge eating disorder.
Eating disorders are complex mental illnesses. They normally start as a way of helping us to cope with something - such as low self-esteem, trauma, or being bullied.
There are four main areas that we focus on:
- Stabilisation - this is where we will introduce healthy coping mechanisms so that you can feel more in control and less reliant on using food.
- Working through the eating disorder - this is different for everyone but is where I will support you in developing a healthy relationship with food.
- Resolving trauma - if you have experienced a trauma, you have the option of working through it with me. This will be done in a very safe, compassionate and supportive way.
- Resolving other problems - because eating disorders develop as a way of helping us to cope with other problems, we must resolve those other problems so that they don't sabotage your recovery. It may be that we work on your self-esteem, body image, relationship with exercise, personal relationships or anything else that is upsetting you.
I work with clients providing one-to-one, personalised therapy.
We will complete an assessment at the start of your recovery journey. We will use the assessment to develop a therapy plan which feels okay for you and gives you the best chance at recovery.
We can work together for as long as we need to. I will never rush therapy because doing so means that any changes you're able to make might not be permanent. Nor will I encourage you to stay in therapy for longer than you need to be. You are in complete control.
As well as having weekly sessions, we will discuss and plan things for you to do at home. This includes worksheets that help you better understand your situation and tools to help you make changes.
Therapy happens at your pace. We'll work together as a team, ensuring that we're not going too slowly or too quickly for you.
My first session
We will have a free consultation so that you can get to know me, find out how I work and ask any questions that you have. It's really important that you work with the right therapist for you, so the consultation is zero obligation; I will never pressure you into having sessions with me.
