About me and my therapy practice
I have been a BACP Accredited Counsellor for over twenty years and know from deep experience that every individual who seeks support is unique and needs to be understood in his or her particular way. It is a big deal to trust someone else with your difficulties and inner experience - so feel free to check out what I can offer and whether I can be of best help to you by emailing or giving me a call.
I work mainly as a counsellor and supervisor in a university setting, which brings me into contact with a huge range of presenting issues, cultural backgrounds and preoccupations. I have also worked with school staff, in a pastoral counselling setting and a GP surgery. So I am familiar with anxiety, stress and depression, loss and bereavement, addictive and self-harming patterns, relationship and family problems, struggles with sexual and cultural identity, experiences of trauma and abuse.
My approach is integrative: my original training was psychodynamic but my counselling is pragmatic and creative, incorporating CBT skills and a varied 'tool-kit' drawing on the individual's strengths and resources. I can offer mindfulness-based stress reduction and enjoy working with people who are questioning their spiritual or existential lives: my own meditation practice and experience of loss and bereavement really underpin my work. I bring integrity and compassion to my listening and a willingness to sit with painful experience but also to challenge where that is helpful - and, most essential, a sense of humour!
