About me and my therapy practice
Hello and Welcome. I am a qualified Therapist providing counselling and psychotherapy to adults, young people and children who are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties. Counselling and psychotherapy offer you a safe space and time to feel listened to, accepted and understood.
I offer a confidential, calm, empathic and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I work in a person-centred way, meaning I tailor the therapy to suit each individual's needs, and work with you at your own pace towards experiencing life in a more positive way.
Therapy works best when the relationship between therapist and client is strong, and I aim to build a therapeutic relationship based on empathy, respect, and genuineness.
I describe my approach as humanistic and integrative. Humanistic practice recognises each person as unique and valuable, with the potential in yourself to experience life more positively. As an integrative practitioner, I draw on a wide range of tools and techniques from different therapies to help each individual client. These include CBT, Transactional Analysis, Attachment theory, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, play therapy, creative methods, Solution-focussed Therapy and Mindfulness.
Since 2012, I have worked as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist with both adults and children. My work with adults has been with a community-based award-winning charity in West Leeds, and with young adults in a further/higher education college in South Yorkshire. I have also worked extensively with children and young people (aged 5-18) in a wide range of primary and high school settings in West and North Yorkshire, including the private sector. In addition, I bring life experience from previous careers.
My practice is based in the centre of Wakefield, five minutes walk from Wakefield Westgate station, and there is a council car park opposite the building.
