About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Sarah. I am an integrative therapist and use a person centred core model as an integral part of my practice. Person centered therapy is a non-directive approach in talking therapy. I will act as a guide and support to minimise any negative feelings you may have, so you have better self esteem and trust in yourself. You'll be encouraged to bring your own issues to the session – the counselling is led by you. I can help you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and life view so you can become more self-aware and achieve better coping strategies and understanding of yourself. I will treat you as the expert on yourself, as no-one else knows exactly what it’s like to be you. I counsel clients who have suffered with depression, anxiety, low self esteem and childhood trauma. Poor mental health can be caused by current life problems but also your childhood and past experiences.
Practice description
I strongly believe given the right conditions we all have the ability to understand ourselves better. Sometimes, due to external circumstances or people around us we lose sight of our way forward. I ensure the appropriate conditions are put in place - when they are in place we can think and feel ourselves again. I provide a safe, confidential and honest environment with unconditional positive regard, respect, warmth and empathy.
I offer a non judgemental and supportive space as you work through the difficulties you are facing, while I assist. l listen to you and I am with you every step of the way as you share your story. I am keen to work with you and find out how best I can support.
As a counsellor, I welcome diversity into my practice and pride myself in creating an inclusive atmosphere for clients. Previously, I have worked with clients from BAME and LGBTQ+ communities, I am understanding of the struggles that can be experienced.
I adhere to the BACP ethical framework and attend monthly supervision and regular CPD trainings to ensure I am familiar with the latest research and practices.
My first session
At first I offer a 15 minute free phone call. It is important you feel comfortable and safe throughout the counselling process. After this, I will invite you to a first session to find out if we can work together and charge £30 for the initial session. If we agree to work together my session fee is £50 for a 50 minute session. I don’t advise but I will offer practical solutions or referrals if necessary. In the first session we will have some time to discuss the contract, and agree on if and how we can work together.
