About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Jennifer. I am a BACP registered counsellor, based in Sudbury, in Suffolk C010.

I trained at ReVision in North London and have a Diploma in Integrative Psychosynthesis Counselling. I have many years of experience of working with people struggling with feelings of low self worth, loss, uncertainty, depression and despair. Prior to training as a psychotherapeutic counsellor, I was a palliative care volunteer, supporting people with life-limiting illness and also worked with the Samaritans.

In my counselling work, I have been privileged to witness incredible growth in clients, many of whom had given up on the idea of self-acceptance. There are parallels between tending to the needs of plants and people. And I believe passionately in the power of both to flourish, given the right conditions.

My approach draws on many different schools of therapy but is based in compassion; both for self and others.

Practice description

Individual therapy

[ Updated arrangements during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic ]

Counselling appointments are currently available via confidential online video link or by telephone. I also offer socially distanced outdoor therapy, for those interested in working therapeutically in nature.

My approach

My style of working is to pay particular attention to you, the individual - what brings you to counselling; and what you might hope for from our meetings. In this way, your needs and process will form the central thread of our work together.

I bring many qualities to the sessions including integrity, warmth, confidentiality, empathy, and the ability to listen and to support people to feel relaxed and comfortable. My experience in life and in counselling is rich and varied. I draw on this experience to inform the counselling process and facilitate growth.

My approach integrates many different schools of therapy (some of which are outlined below) but is based in compassion; both for self and others.

My work is:

  • Person-centred, in that your needs and process forms the central thread of all the work
  • Psycho-dynamic, in taking seriously the way that formative past experiences influence our make-up
  • Cognitive, in considering and updating how you think about and construe your world
  • Existential, in acknowledging the key questions about life and death
  • Transpersonal and holistic, in recognising that we are all an essential part of a larger whole and that our problems themselves may be the doorway into a wider and more enriching life
  • Relational, in considering how we impact one another and how you relate to people in other parts of your life

My first session

Contact me

Please do get in touch if you are considering counselling and would like to find out more.

We can arrange an initial online session (no special software or technical ability required), to enable us to 'meet' and see if we would like to work together.

Arranging a first meeting

In the first session I will ask you what brings you to therapy. I may also ask you about your history and relationships. You can ask me questions about my counselling and we can talk about your expectations or fears. I will also explain my contract and how I work.

This work is most effective when client and therapist have a good relationship. If we are not a good fit, I can recommend other therapists for you to try.
