About me and my therapy practice

I’m a Person-centred therapist committed to helping you learn to accept yourself, empowering you to reach your potential, build resilience and develop healthy relationships with yourself and others.

My work focuses on the therapeutic relationship, providing a space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential space.

I like to work creatively as I understand it's not always easy to communicate in a linear way, this may involve using materials in therapy sessions such as printed images and providing an opportunity for you to create your own imagery if you would like to do so. This can be a really beneficial way of exploring your thoughts and feelings, especially when the words can't be found.

I believe it's also helpful to have body awareness, especially being aware of how our body reacts to our emotions, during sessions we may include breathwork to help build this connection and help you manage feelings of stress and anxiety.

I have completed my training in Person-centred therapy, have a degree in Psychology and have studied Transactional analysis, CBT and Psychodynamic therapies. Together we will find the best way of working therapeutically.

I offer 'Walk and talk' therapy seasonally; sometimes sitting in one place can be too much for people, perhaps because it makes you physically or psychologically uncomfortable or feel trapped, maybe you have ADHD or simply get tired of sitting in an office all day, whatever your reason walking and talking in nature can decrease symptoms of depression and anxiety and boost self-esteem. Nature also provides some natural metaphors for describing your experience.

The therapy session will begin and finish in the same place and you will be able to choose the pace and paths we take along the way, we may even find a bench to rest and reflect upon.

I will be prepared to walk in all weathers, however you may choose to have your session online or in my counselling room as an alternative.

Practice description

I offer 60 minutes session face to face in Liverpool or remotely online or by telephone.

My first session

What to expect from my first therapy session:

First we will begin with a free enquiry call, this lasts about 15 minutes and gives us both the chance to introduce ourselves, I can learn a bit more about you and what you would like to achieve from therapy and importantly, you can ask me any questions you may have and decide whether I am the right fit for you. The therapeutic relationship is key for counselling and it's important that you feel able to connect with your chosen counsellor.

Once we agree to work together we will arrange a mutually agreeable time to have our sessions, if there are no available slots appropriate to you, I will offer to add you to my waiting list until that time becomes available.

First session

Our first session together is a time for you to share what you feel is most relevant to you at that moment, we will start where you feel comfortable beginning.

Counselling sessions, particularly your first session, can be powerful and liberating, clients often feel relief. However, you may discuss things you have never spoken about before or areas that may be very emotional, it's important that you allow yourself time after and between sessions to process and reflect on what has been spoken about and to be able to reintegrate back into the world.

Having a plan for how to take care of yourself after your first session will help, for example taking a walk or having a warm drink can ground you and help bring you back into the here and now.
