About me and my therapy practice
I am a registered member of the BACP and an Accredited Existential Psychotherapist registered with UKCP. I have worked in various settings but my specialism and expertise are in health-related counselling. I understand how receiving a medical diagnosis can feel life changing. You may be asking yourself: Why me? What will treatment be like? Will I ever be myself again? Or maybe you are living with a chronic condition and struggling with the day to day because of fatigue, pain, low mood, or lack of support.
I have a deep understanding of the challenges of receiving a diagnosis, undergoing treatment, and finding a “new normal”. I was diagnosed with a rare disease at age 24 and my experience of illness has had a profound impact on my journey into counselling. In addition to seeing clients privately, I work part-time as a Macmillan Cancer Counsellor. My work involves supporting patients affected by cancer, as well as carers, and relatives. I am also a Contracted Counsellor with Rareminds CIC, a not-for-profit organisation providing specialist counselling and wellbeing resources for the rare disease community.
Although working with a therapist who has been through their own experience of illness is not a requirement for good therapy, it may feel validating to know that you are being heard and supported by someone who can deeply empathise and resonate with your experience.
Practice description
As a therapist, I provide a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential space, in which we can explore your lived experience and your relationships with others, yourself and the world. I emphasize curiosity and openness to facilitate our process of reflection, and to allow for a deeper understanding of what has brought you to therapy.
My first session
First sessions can feel a little nerve-wracking; you are expected to talk about yourself with a complete stranger and that might not come very naturally, therefore my intentions for the first session are to put you at ease and start building trust. I encourage you to ask questions about the process and my approach, to see if we would be a good fit.
