About me and my therapy practice
My name is Jean and I am a qualified person-centred counsellor working in Ramsbottom. You may be wondering if counselling is what you need at the moment. Here are some examples of how counselling has helped people that I've worked with recently. I have supported people through grief to enable them to enjoy life again. I have helped people who are feeling overwhelmed or anxious to discover their inner strength and find ways of managing their stress. I have helped people who are troubled by abusive relationships from their past, to understand the impact of trauma and then how to live free from the abuse. I have helped people at extremely low points in their lives to find hope to keep living.
Even without the extra challenges of the corona virus, at times life events may be overwhelming and we can find ourselves unable to make sense of our feelings or to find a way forward. Depression or anxiety can settle and be difficult to shrug off. You may have supportive people around you, but many of my clients say how much it helps to talk to someone who isn’t personally involved in your life.
As a person-centred counsellor, I will listen to you with understanding and without judgement. Together we can build a confidential relationship that enables you to feel safe to explore any events, issues, or feelings that are concerning you. You will take the lead and be in control of what we talk about
Please contact me by phone or email to discuss an appointment. Face to face appointments take place in Ramsbottom and are available on a Tuesday. Online and telephone appointments are available on Tuesday and Thursday.
As a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, you can be assured, I have been appropriately trained to meet professional standards.
Training, qualifications & experience
PgDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Salford University in 2017
Level 3 Certificate in counselling Skills at Bolton Community College in 2008
Previously, I had a successful career as a Speech & Language Therapist in the NHS, where I had the privilege of working with children who had significant communication difficulties. I am aware of how crucial communication is to our sense of worth and well being and also in making and maintaining relationships.
I have been a Volunteer Counsellor at MHIST (Mental Health Independent Support Team) in Bolton, for 4 years, working with clients referred via the GP service.
My first session
All sessions last 50 minutes. During the first session I will explain more about counselling and you can ask any questions you would like. I will ask you to complete an assessment that asks questions about your feelings and sense of wellbeing. We will discuss confidentiality and any risk of immediate harm to yourself or others as necessary. You will then be able to start to talk about whatever is causing you concern. Finally we will discuss if you feel comfortable to continue with more sessions and I will discuss my contract with you and ask you to sign it. For online and telephone sessions the contract will be emailed to you in advance.
It can be helpful to consider 6 sessions but there is no commitment to a particular number of sessions and you are free to cancel at any time. We will review together regularly to see how the sessions are working for you and whether you wish to continue.
