About me and my therapy practiceI am a RELATE trained integrative, individual, couple and relationship counsellor. I believe that a trusting relationship between the client and counsellor is the key to successful therapeutic experiences, leading to a positive impact on the client’s life. I provide a non-judgemental, confidential, empathic and honest environment for a client.
As a counsellor, my role is to help my client to get unstuck and move forward in life. I help my clients to find their voice in the sessions and explore their choices in life. I help my clients to find their own inner-power, resilience and confidence, teach them to how to find resources and support systems outside of the counselling room, so they will be free and confident to self-manage.
I have a Diploma in Counselling Level 5 in Person-Centred counselling with Existential, Gestalt and psychodynamic, with experience in short- time and long- time counselling. Although I explore the past with my clients, we always focus on being connected with the ‘Here and Now’.
I also include Solution Focused therapy, Life Coaching and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to take action outside of therapy to overcome life challenges. I like to use different materials, skills and activities in the therapy room to tailor to each client’s needs.
Having worked as a RELATE trained couples and relationships counsellor, I employ a systemic understanding of both an individual client and couple situations. Listening is the key to improve a couple’s relationship.
My role is to help them to understand each other’s point of view. I have worked with clients experiencing attachment issues, commitment issues, miscommunication, intimacy issues, sexual problems, loss, betrayal, affairs, addictions, domestic violence etc.
I have also specialised in individual Domestic Violence Counselling, having worked with Domestic Violence organisations including Women’s Trust. Further groups I have worked with include the LGBTQ+ community and/or those who are HIV positive at Positive East, and with Secondary school children.
I attend regular Supervision sessions and Continued Professional Development courses as per BACP guidelines, and work in accordance to Data Protection legislation.
My first session
I always send my client their Personal Details Form prior to the session, so we could talk about their physical and mental well being in the first session. I talk about our confidentiality agreement, and how I work, fees, putting time boundaries, boundaries outside of sessions and the cancellation policy. we will also discuss data protection and ethical guidelines.
I explore my client's decision to come to therapy now, what is currently happening in their lives, what issues they would like to focus on, what their desirable outcomes are, what kind of therapy works for them, and exploring the time frame of therapy.
By the end of the session, we both agree if we will go ahead and work together, or not.
