About me and my therapy practice

Are you a single parent? (me too) Struggling with feelings of isolation, exhaustion or anxiety? Perhaps your family set up feels different to the standard expected by society, and you'd like to work through those feelings with someone who 'gets it'.

As a single parent myself, I really understand how exhausting (and often lonely) it can feel doing things on your own. Because of this, mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, burn out and low self esteem can be common place. You are literally taking on the mental and emotional workload of two people!

Due to my own journey as a single parent, and retraining as a therapist as part of that journey, I am particularly interested in working with people who:

• Have found themselves raising children alone and struggle with their mental health or identity as a result of this.

• Have increased anxiety - feeling like you shoulder all the responsibility.

• Feel socially isolated, lonely, or judged for raising children in a 'broken home' (I personally hate this expression!)

• Are a new parent struggling with post natal depression/anxiety.

• Were raised in a single parent household and worried about something happening to their parent; leaving them alone in the world.

I also welcome enquiries from anyone looking for a neutral listening ear; different to that of friends and family members. Perhaps you have experienced a significant event in your life, that has left you feeling in shock, or with a painful sense of loss that feels all-consuming.

It could be that you are feeling stuck in self-destructive patterns and would like help in moving forward in a way that better serves you. Perhaps you have a tendency to keep things to yourself, as friends and family don't seem to understand.

Practice description

Whether you are seeking support through life’s many challenges, experiencing work or relationship struggles, or you would simply like to gift yourself a greater understanding in to who you are, counselling could help you to make sense of your life and allow you to start living in a more authentic and fulfilling way.

Our sessions will be 50 minutes long and will take place at my counselling room, situated in an easily accessible, but discreet location in Eaton Socon, St Neots - with free on-site parking. Alternatively, I can offer Zoom/telephone counselling if you prefer.

Typically sessions will be on a weekly basis, but I also have some availability for fortnightly sessions if this works better for you. I can offer some time-limited concessions at £40 per session, which is to be reviewed after 6 sessions, with regard to any changes in personal circumstances.

My first session

If this is your first experience of counselling it is likely to feel a little scary. However, I would like to reassure you that there is no right or wrong way to do counselling, and you will never be wasting my time.

Before your first session I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation. This is to discuss your counselling needs, and to provide an opportunity to see if I'm the right fit for you. If you decide you want to go ahead, we can then arrange a suitable day and time for your first session.

The first session is a chance for you to tell me your story; what's brought you to counselling. It also allows us to form the foundation of our working relationship - to outline how we will work together and answer any questions you may have.

Don't worry if you're not sure where to start - I can help you with this and there's no rush.
