About me and my therapy practice
I will be working on Zoom or over the phone for the duration of lockdown. This may continue afterwards depending on individual circumstances but my main aim is to get back to face to face therapy as soon as is safe.
Working outdoors in Nottingham-based parks I provide a dynamic space for you to explore and process whatever you are struggling with.
The basic theory of walk and talk therapy is that the movement allows shifting of stuckness, and the side-by-side position can feel less imposing. There is however no requirement to walk and you can find a spot you like where we can sit and have a 'traditional' session.
I find the power of nature soothing and I hope you will too. The natural environment is rich for materials, metaphor and space for big emotions.
The fundamentals of the theory I work with is a humanistic and integrative philosophy. I accept you as you are in the moment and everything that has come before that; I help you explore and understand parts of yourself you were unaware of, or don't accept, or just don't like. The relationship is the important part of what we create because it can highlight difficulties in other relationships in your life and so I will pay attention to how we are relating to each other.
My commitment is to offer you as safe an environment as possible holding compassion for you and a non-judgemental attitude allowing you to take your therapy at your own pace.
I am experienced in working with trauma, depression, anxiety, loss of identity and life changes. With availability on Thursdays, I can do an initial assessment indoors on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
My first session
My initial face-to-face assessment session is where I get as much information from you as possible to build my knowledge of you on. We spend about 50 minutes discussing your current situation, what you would like to work on and getting a comprehensive overview of your past including childhood, family, school, work, health issues and any other pertinent information.
This is usually carried out indoors but I am happy to take this outside if this is your preference.
