Availability

I understand that 9-5 doesn't work for everyone. With that in mind I offer appointments during the day and early evening. I usually see clients face to face in my home office but video call and telephone appointments are available.

About me and my therapy practice

I'm a humanistic/ person-centred counsellor, which means I focus on the individual as a whole person. Sessions are a safe and confidential space for you to explore any issues and difficulties that you may be experiencing without fear of judgement. My compassionate approach encourages people to think about their feelings and take responsibility for their thoughts and actions. Counselling can be an emotional and challenging process but ultimately it can help you untangle and understand confusing feelings; promote self acceptance and self compassion; help you recognise your strengths and empower you to choose your best way forward.

Practice description

I am an experienced counsellor, accredited with the BACP and hold an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy. I have worked with a wide variety of clients in a number of different settings including an IAPT accredited service (a service providing NHS psychological therapies) where I was a senior therapist. I have also worked in the third sector for charities supporting women and bereaved people.

Prior to becoming a counsellor I worked for many years in various public facing and managerial roles so I have a wealth of experience in helping and supporting people.

I have a particular interest in the medical sciences which stems from my first degree, a BSc (Hons) Pharmacology /Physiology. I use this knowledge to inform my approach to counselling and psychotherapy.

My first session

The first session is an assessment and lasts only 30 minutes. This is an opportunity for us to meet, for you to find out more about how I work and for me to understand more about what brings you to counselling. This is to ensure that the therapy I offer is appropriate for you and is what you want. This can be done over the phone or face to face. There is no charge for this session.

In order to understand the context to your current issues and determine whether I can help, I may ask you about your physical health generally and your history in terms of your mental health.

If you require more specialist help or if your problem is outside my area of expertise, I will discuss this with you and advise you of alternative sources of support.
