About me and my therapy practice
People seek out therapy for many different reasons. When life feels overwhelming, therapy provides a space to explore those overwhelming feelings and difficulties that you may be experiencing.
Therapy is a collaborative process where we can suspend time and space from our daily lives and observe, experience and give ourselves permission to understand parts of ourselves that we may not have truly met before. I place emphasis on the uniqueness of who you are but also where relevant reflect on the importance of sexuality, race, culture, religion, spirituality and identity.
As therapy is profoundly personal and unique we will establish a trusting therapeutic relationship where you can feel comfortable to work through the issues you have experienced in your life. I provide a nonjudgmental, empathic, supportive, safe space where you can reflect upon and express the emotions you may be holding. I strongly believe that it is within this relationship that capacity for change can present itself and healing can occur.
Practice description
My approach is psychodynamic, looking at the immediate issues you wish to explore as well as the root causes stemming from your unconscious emotional experiences that sometimes reside with your past, bringing deeper thoughts to awareness. With greater insight and new perspective to those thoughts, feelings and repeated patterns of behaviour in our lives, we gain greater insight into ourselves and we can reflect and decide if they truly benefit our wellbeing.
I can incorporate transpersonal elements into our work, taking a holistic approach, and using mindfulness practices with an emphasis on a healthy mind, body and spirit. This approach focuses on open-mindedness, self-awareness and energy within the therapeutic relationship.
My clinical experience in addition to private practice includes working in multiple therapeutic settings; NHS Talking Therapies (IAPT), The Awareness Centre, Deptford Green Secondary School, Ark Evelyn Grace Academy Secondary School and the charitable organisation, Theatre Troupe where I am a board member.
My training qualifications include a Master's in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths, University of London (Level 7). I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
My first session
I recognise the importance of finding the right fit in therapy and recommend that we start with an introductory session where we can meet to discuss your needs and assess if I am the right therapist for you.
From there we will follow up with a full assessment and initial plan before moving forward with the agreed approach for you.
