About me and my therapy practice
It's not easy finding a counsellor when there are so many out there. It's sometimes difficult enough coming to the decision that therapy may help, and then you have to search endlessly through countless profiles until you find someone you think might be right for you.
What I would like to offer you the space and time you need to try and work through whatever it is that led you to this place, with a view to hopefully helping to make things that little bit easier.
I can't tell you this will be an easy process, but what I can tell you is that it can be liberating.
It’s likely you already have the tools and inner resources to feel better, but maybe you just need some help accessing them.
I am a qualified integrative counsellor with a grounding in attachment theory and a keen interest in systemic thinking, but ultimately, I am a firm believer that the relational elements to therapy are the true vehicle to change.
I have spent a number of years working in a variety of social care settings that involved working with vulnerable adults, children and families and have seen just how important it is to build trusting relationships so that people may experience what long lasting change actually looks and feels like to them.
Most recently I spent 2 years working as a counsellor at a drug and alcohol addiction charity which allowed me to understand the power of shame and the self-critical voice.
I know that sitting across a room isn’t for everyone, so I am happy to offer walking sessions (weather permitting of course) and am open to bringing creativity into the work we do together as a way of exploring another dimension to the therapeutic process.
I love to use metaphor within my work, however everything we do together will always be done with your best intentions at the heart of the work..
My first session
I would imagine it's going to be difficult to tell how you feel about someone straight away, especially when you are looking for someone you can build a trusting, safe relationship with. We are meeting for the first time and that will potentially come with some feelings of uncertainty and trepidation.
There is no pressure from me for you to go ahead with sessions after our initial meeting, or for you to commit to anything you don't feel comfortable with, which is why I offer the first 25 minute session for a reduced rate of £20 as this will give you the chance to ask any questions you may have and to see how you feel when you meet me.
