About me and my therapy practice

My name is Eleanor. I’m an integrative psychotherapist. This means that I’ve been trained in, and work with, a range of therapeutic techniques, rather than one modality.

I’m a warm, empathetic and calm person with a genuine interest in people’s stories; how what’s happened to us shapes who, and how, we are in the world. The mind and body are inseparable. I’m interested in what we internalise from our experiences and wider society, and how these things ‘show up’ in our bodies.

I use techniques from psychodynamic theory, person centred theory, cognitive behavioural theory (CBT) and ideas from existential philosophy. I tailor my approach to a clients’ individual needs and preferences. In other words, the human being sat in front of me.

I work with people who have all kinds of emotional difficulties and mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship and attachment issues, loss, work conflicts, ‘stuckness’ and anger. I’m experienced in working with trauma and abuse.

I experienced significant anxiety when I was younger. This informs my approach; particularly the need for therapy that combines in-depth work with a practical focus on how profoundly physical anxiety can be.

My approach is LGBTQIA+ positive, with a focus on considering differences and discriminations.

Practice description

It can feel awkward, or daunting, to consider coming to therapy. It’s completely natural to worry about trusting another person with difficult thoughts or feelings, let alone a stranger. I provide a safe, non-judgemental and trusting space for you to be truly honest and accepted for who you are. This is very important to me.

You may decide to work with me in the short-term, or wish to engage in longer-term therapy. In either case, I’ll try to build a holding and supportive working relationship with you. We’ll work collaboratively, at your own pace.

In my experience, exploring the meaning of a client’s difficulties, and encouraging more flexibility in their thinking, can be freeing. Then, meaningful change can seem possible. Sometimes it may be useful to consider the interactions between us to help you understand patterns in your relationships outside the therapy room.

I provide weekly therapy sessions to individuals face-to-face and online, via Zoom.

I offer a free, 15-20 minute intro call or online meeting. We can discuss what’s made you consider coming to therapy, your expectations and to see if we’re a good fit for one another.

Our sessions would be confidential and follow the BACP Ethical Framework. I’m fully insured, have regular clinical supervision and I’m committed to ongoing professional development.
