About me and my sessions

A Counselling service that helps clients with life difficulties that are affecting your day-to-day life. Are you feeling it is time to help you? are you looking for support to get back on track, feeling anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed.

It is all too often we put others before ourselves, keep our peace of mind on the back burner. Are you looking for support to get back on track?

Counselling for my clients has helped to unlock feelings and thoughts, by exploring what is said and reflecting on things felt. They feel understood, relieved, and heard. I have no agenda to meet or boxes to tick, it is about you, what you bring and what you need.

It is not just talking in our sessions I also work creatively and think outside of the box. Using creativity to dig deep and explore patterns of behaviour and letting go of negative thoughts. By giving you ways to see things hidden or face fears, you do the work and benefit from the results. The session is aimed around your needs and end goals.

I am not just guessing how it feels or reading a book to gain knowledge I have lived with what I specialise in, I suffered with anxiety, depression and work-related stress and now it’s the menopause.

I am a firm believer in 'there is no such thing as normal' so I wanted to be honest and tell you a bit about me and what made me become a counsellor and seek my own counselling.

Being a parent of a child with multiple complex mental health disorders was tiring, frustrating and lonely as I seemed to be on my own, at times I was expected to know more than the specialists. She is the reason I got into Counselling as watching someone I care deeply about from a child to an adult, feel continuously let down and judged over their mental health, just another statistic. I wanted to be that someone for them, so they did not feel alone.

Practice description

What I specialise in

Anxiety: My clients often have anxiety as the core issue and are struggling to manage or cope with this on their own. This includes social anxiety and generalised anxiety disorder. Some clients have anxiety from using dating apps, starting fresh with someone new or ending something (e.g. relationship, job, moving etc..) and the anxiety that comes with it.

Depression: We all have times when our mood is low, and we're feeling sad or miserable about life. Usually these feelings pass in due course. But if the feelings are interfering with your life and don't go away after a couple of weeks, or if they come back over and over again for a few days at a time, it could be a sign that you're experiencing depression.

work related stress: My clients are going through a career change, do not like their jobs anymore or have started in a new job role and find it overwhelming or stressful. It's helpful to learn how to manage stress caused by work. If you often experience feelings of stress, you might be at risk of developing a mental health problem like depression or anxiety.

I offer

Online and telephone sessions covering the UK. If you feel ready to talk or have a question call or email me, I am happy to answer any questions you may have. I offer flexible appointments to suit the client's needs.

*I have also introduced a 90 minute one off session for people who do want to have weekly or fortnightly sessions.

About me and my therapy practice

Couples therapy provides a safe and supportive space to think about and explore any issues you may have.

The aim is not to point the finger and blame, but to help both parties reconnect emotionally – to listen to their partner differently, learn to communicate more effectively and create, a happier and healthier relationship.

Who Should Consider Couples Therapy?

It’s for all couples of all ages and at all stages of their relationship not just for those in crisis.

Therapy for couples can resolve a current problem, prevent problems from worsening, or provide a “check-up” for a happy couple experiencing a period of transition or increased stress.

Common issues addressed in couples therapy include:

Money, parenting, sex, affairs, family and friends, chronic illness, conflict.

What happens in a couple’s therapy session?

The therapist looks at each person and how their role in the relationship, difficulties, need and wants affects each other and the couple.

A therapist is always a neutral party.

Couples therapy can be a powerful way to change the course of your relationship so both partners can be happier in the relationship.

What problems can couples therapy help with?

Couples bring a wide range of issues to counselling, from lack of intimacy and communication breakdown to trust, jealousy and infidelity issues. Family conflicts and difficult life transitions can cause problems within a relationship, as can work-related stress or financial problems.

What couples therapy can't do

Counselling isn’t a magic bullet that will solve a couple’s relationship problems.

Counselling can help you understand yourself and others better, and offer tools and guidance, but it can’t change a person or a relationship if people aren’t ready to put in the effort and commitment.

A therapist can guide and help you, but it’s the couple who must do the hard work.

For some couples, the safest and healthiest option may be for them to separate. And couples counselling can be an important part of the process.

Practice description

These are some of the benefits couples therapy can offer:

Understand each other better: Couples therapy can help you understand yourself and your partner better.

Identify relationship issues: Your therapist can help you and your partner identify issues that are leading to recurring conflicts, lack of trust.

Improve communication skills: Therapy can help you and your partner communicate with each other.

Resolve conflicts: Your therapist can help you and your partner work through your issues and resolve them.

Why do couples delay coming to therapy?

Couples often wait to try therapy until the relationship is severely damaged/or it seems too late. There are many reasons why people might put off getting therapy. For example:

  •  Believe couples therapy is only beneficial for severe issues such as infidelity or addiction.
  • View it as a last-ditch effort before deciding to end the relationship.
  • Be afraid of the therapist “taking sides”.
  • Think it’s a way to force their partner to change because “they are the problem”.

Online therapy

Online couples therapy has several advantages when compared to traditional face-to-face therapy. The most obvious benefit is the convenience factor. Time saved by not travelling to appointments can be a huge plus. It can be ideal for couples where one or both partners frequently travel or have very different schedules. Or couples with children who have difficulty finding childcare also benefit from this kind of therapy.

Face to face therapy

Face-to-face therapy or in-person therapy is when you physically come to the session for a scheduled appointment with the therapist to get support in their office or therapy room.

My office is a place where you can just be. It’s a safe environment where you’re free to open open up and not have any distractions or technological malfunctions. It may be the only way you will both get space away from work and home life to concentrate on your relationship.

Do you think you are either "not enough" or "too much" for the people around you. Perhaps you feel guilty and think "it's all my fault" - that there's something wrong with you.

Maybe you're experiencing anxiety and stress as you try to please people. I can help you think in a more positive way leading to a happier life and healthy relationships.

Without even realising, you're probably telling yourself how bad you are. Counselling with me will unlock different thoughts so that you can lead a more positive life. Clients tell me they feel relieved, understood, and that they have a voice again.

About me

I am a firm believer in 'there is no such thing as normal' so I wanted to be honest and tell you a bit about me and what made me become a counsellor and seek my own counselling.

Being a parent of a child with multiple complex mental health disorders was tiring, frustrating and lonely as I seemed to be on my own, at times I was expected to know more than the specialists. This was overwhelming without managing my daily life.

My child is the reason I got into Counselling as watching someone I care deeply about from a child to an adult, feel continuously let down and judged over their mental health and just another statistic or diagnosis. I wanted to be that someone for the parents going through this, so they did not feel alone.

Having two children leave home feeling that 'empty nest' and menopause at the same time was challenging and emotional. My close relationships with loved ones and friends were affected I lost myself and my confidence, but I learnt to manage and put things in place to balance out my life and have a healthier and happier emotional state.

Areas I can help with include:

  • Anxiety and depression counselling
  • Bereavement counselling
  • Grief counselling

Practice description

What I specialise in

Feeling lost/ loss of identity:

Feeling lost can be caused by several factors, such as a lack of purpose, fulfilment, or direction. Right now, it may seem like life has no meaning. The important thing to tell yourself is that you need to go easy on yourself instead of blaming yourself for feeling lost.

Feeling lost - like life has no purpose or meaning This could be due to:

  • parenting a special needs child or child with complex mental health needs
  • illness or the menopause
  • handling difficult situations such as a job or relationship loss
  • Loss (death or loss of loved one from breakup or job)
  • Emotional factors like anxiety, depression

Feeling lost can make you question everything such as your relationships, careers and friendships.

You may feel like you no longer know who you are and this affects your confidence, Self esteem or self image.

Relationship Counselling for individuals:

Do you struggle to form or maintain relationships with others? Maybe you're afraid to try again as you do not want to get hurt?

My clients have said it feel's like when a relationship ended for them it was ‘their fault ‘or ‘they were too much.’

•The if, (If i did it differently or if i didn't say that)

•I should have, ( I should have tried harder or I should have known)

•The if only I, ( If I did it another way or if I had said something sooner)

It is hard trying to get over a breakup or to start a new relationship, whether it is commitment issues, previous unpleasant experience or trauma or never been in a relationship.

Some clients have anxiety from using dating apps, starting fresh with someone new or ending something (e.g. relationship, job, moving etc..) and the anxiety that comes with it.

I can help you find the mental strength to move forward, be more self-assured and confident in your relationships on a personal, work or friendship level.

**I do cover other areas not listed.
