About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel stuck? Lost? Anxious? Depressed? Many of us will experience a mental health issue at some point in our lives and it is during these times that we may seek help to guide us through.
I am a certified Counsellor and support worker with many years of experience. My mission is not to "fix" you but with guidance I will help you to find your hidden potential so you become empowered by your own strengths and resources.
I am able to sit with you whilst you explore what may feel like chaos and confusion and I can tolerate the times you may feel stuck and afraid.
Together we can work side by side until things feel more calm, clearer and you are better able to move forward as an independent and confident person.
My own way of dealing with chaos is spending time in nature, music, at and mindfulness.
I have been working as a Counsellor since 2009, I am DBS checked and I am insured to practice.
Over the years I have worked within a number of agencies including women's refuges and Sailors, Soldiers Airmen and their Families Association. Within SSAFA I worked with a huge range of issues including homelessness, PTSD, relationships, bullying, LGBTQ, loneliness and self harm.
I also have experience of foster care, teen pregnancies, bereavement, the benefit system, trauma and long term health issues.
I will provide you with a safe and secure space to explore any issue you wish to bring to counselling and you will have the confidence to know that the space will be free from any preconceptions or judgements.
I work as an Integral Counsellor, I will always take your needs into account and recognise that everything past and present in your life is interconnected and how this may be impacting on the present moment. I hope to restore a positive sense for yourself and that your life becomes a more healthy and balanced one. I will use a variety of models, skills and tools.
This year, 2020, as the world faced an invisible war against the COVID-19 virus meant that we have all had to adapt to a new way of being.
People needed health services to be there for them including being able to find the right mental health support. Counsellors and therapists adapted quickly taking on new ways of working and retraining so they could deliver online therapies safely and ethically.
I too have gained further qualifications in this area and have now performed many hours training as an online therapist and I am proud to say I am meeting the needs of those clients participating in online therapy. If you would like to learn more about online therapy please head to my website.
My first session
Your first experience of therapy with me will be a free/taster session lasting about 20 minutes to half an hour. It is an informal chat about whether we feel we could work together and if counselling is suitable for you.
It may be that I feel you would be better referred to a different counsellor or service or you may feel that I'm not the right counsellor for you. The time is spent understanding your needs and whether I can meet them.
Moving forward if you wish to book with me I will initially offer you 6 sessions with a review at week 6. By week 6 we will have an understanding of your story and experience and we may feel you would benefit from more long term counselling and this will be discussed during the review and further sessions can be booked.
If you have opted for online therapy we will spend some time making sure you feel confident, comfortable and safe in using your chosen method, telephone, video link, chat-box or email.
