About me and my therapy practice
I trained as a person-centred therapist using additional CBT techniques. I build trust, safety and rapport into my sessions which is based on Carl Rogers core conditions empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard, I learnt how to use CBT to deepen understanding of a client’s thought processes.
I use CBT tools to understand/clarify clients thought processes, feelings and subsequent behaviour and the consequences of their thoughts. We explore together whether thoughts are helpful or unhelpful. We look at different ways of thinking by challenging these thoughts.
I studied to an advanced diploma level once qualified and because my background work was predominantly with children and young people I studied further in counselling children & adolescents I learnt how to be creative and furthered my knowledge of the developing brain and life difficulties that affect children and young people, whilst working with children and young people and giving them space to explore their thoughts and feelings cognitively and creatively, it would also be helpful to explore the work in a wider content. I then grew an interested in family/systemic work, which also came from my background in early years work and family support in a mental-health setting.
I have increasingly found working systemically over time and which I have gained knowledge through CPD.
