About me and my therapy practice
About me
Hello, my name is Tess and I am an accredited member of the BACP. I have over 35 years experience working in the NHS and for the last 15 years I have been based in a busy psychology department of a large Mental Health Trust, where I provide counselling and psychotherapy to help and support individuals with a wide variety of issues.
I have recently developed Meraki counselling service, this is a bespoke space, created to provide a safe, reflective place for people to explore their lives and difficulties and begin the journey towards making change. People come to therapy for many different reasons; managing recent life events, fluctuating emotional states or recognising the impact of past traumas on current experiences and relationships. I use both counselling and creativity to help people explore those issues and to encourage a sense of inner resilience and strength, the foundations for strong, sustainable change.
Experience
I began my counselling training at Warwick University and qualified as a person centred counsellor in 2008. Since then I have attained further diplomas, with the specific aim of improving and broadening my practice. Through my role in Psychological Services I have worked with and supported people experiencing acute anxiety, depression, stress, anger issues, trauma and self-harm. I have also gained experience of supporting people who have experienced bereavement, sexual trauma, domestic abuse and loss through a number of voluntary roles that I have worked in over the years.
If you would like to know more about me and how I might be able to support you, please visit my webpage:

My first session
Wherever possible I arrange a telephone conversation with someone before we agree to begin the journey of therapy together. This offers clients an opportunity to share their reasons for accessing counselling at this time and offers some insight into how sessions with me might be, often reducing some of the normal anxieties that first sessions can bring. Following our conversation I encourage clients to have a period of reflection prior to booking in for their first face-to-face session, to support a sense of autonomy throughout the whole experience.
