About me and my therapy practice
As an integrative counsellor I am able to draw on knowledge and skills from various counselling approaches. This allows the flexibility to work together in a personalised way, informed by your unique needs and preferences at the time. I also offer Sandplay which can be a powerful and creative way to explore inner worlds away from the reliance on words (more information can be found on my website).
Before becoming a therapist I worked in the field of neurodiversity for many years in various roles, including as a teacher of adults and young people and a Disability Advisor at the University of Plymouth. I am also a qualified diagnostic assessor of Specific Learning Difficulties and I have a Masters qualification in SpLD, ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Condition. Although all clients are welcome, many of my clients are neurodiverse.
I recognise that choosing a therapist is not always easy and so I offer a free initial consultation. This gives you the opportunity to hear more about how I work, ask any questions which you may have about me or the counselling process, and also for you to get a sense as to whether you feel we could work well together.
Whatever your presenting issues, concerns, or goals, you will be offered a non-judgemental space where you are valued and respected as a unique individual. For the duration of our work together, I will be committed to enhancing your personal development.
I provide both face-to-face and online therapy, as well as short-term and open-ended therapy. You can choose the frequency of the sessions, e.g. weekly, fortnightly, or even monthly.
My first session
The first counselling session will be scheduled to take place as soon as possible after the initial consultation or, if you prefer, after you have contacted me either by phone or email. This will be the start of us coming to know each other and an opportunity for me to gain an understanding of what is going on for you.
The first session is also a time to further explore what you would like the focus of the therapy to be. As the therapy progresses, we may at times lose sight of the focus as we remain open to what you bring and what arises in the session. The focus can always be changed or developed, but having one is important, particularly if you wish to work with a pre-established number of sessions.
