About me and my therapy practice
I am Arthi Chicken, a qualified Child and Adolescent Counsellor. I created Room for Resilience to provide therapeutic services tailored to children, young people and their parents.
My therapeutic approach has its foundations in Narrative therapy, an especially respectful approach to therapy, where the client is seen and known as the expert of their own lives and their experiences. I use a variety of tools in therapy including art-such as drawing, painting or sculpting with clay, writing, puppets, sand tray and picture cards depending on the interests of my clients.
Along with child and adolescent counselling, I am also passionate about working with parents. Our relationships with the people around us, especially in the first few years of life, greatly influences the way we relate to others and ourselves as we grow older. Therapy can help repair and restore the quality of the relationship between family members, a significant factor to overall wellbeing.
I believe in every client’s capacity for growth, in their abilities to endure hardships and their creativity to solve problems. My role as a therapist is to create an environment of trust and safety, facilitating change and thus making room for resilience.
