About me and my therapy practice

About me

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor, registered with the BACP. I have been in practice for seven years.

I have worked as an external counsellor for South Yorkshire Police and have practiced as a specialist counsellor for adult survivors of trauma.

I currently manage a mental health service within the local community and provide private counselling and supervision in private practice @the Counselling Room.

Working with you

My approach to counselling places emphasis on the development of a comfortable and collaborative relationship.

This is underpinned by my integrative approach to practice which considers; how our emotional development, experiences and relationships affect our present lives.

I aim to provide an experience which enables you to explore difficult thoughts and feelings whilst nurturing your curiosity and capabilities. Arguably, the latter provides for real possibilities and the freedom to consider your choices.

Practice description

Navigating next steps

It’s not uncommon to experience an array of different feelings prior to first meeting including; feeling nervous, anxious or skeptical.

To ease any concerns, I routinely send more information about my approach in advance of the first meeting. This includes important details about accessing therapy, how I work and how I protect your confidentiality.

A flexible approach

I offer counselling by telephone or secure video link. Both options provide a free and simple way of accessing therapy in the comfort of your own space.

It is not uncommon to have some reservations about accessing therapy in this way. Whilst it can be an adjustment to some, others describe it as a ‘worthwhile’ encounter.

My first session

The first session

The first session provides us both with an opportunity to consider how we might work together and importantly, for how long.

6 sessions are a recommended starting point. A lot of clients describe capacity for change in this time; whilst others prefer to work over a longer period of time.

If after meeting, you decide to continue accessing counselling; we will aim to meet once a week. Each session will last for 50 minutes
