About me and my therapy practice
BACP Accredited (since 2012), I have been counselling adults since 2005, and also young people (13+) since 2010. I bring a wealth of experience and understanding of many areas of distress people feel. I will listen, carefully, to what you want to say, no judging, and it will be completely confidential. Working with your current situation, and understanding how it links to the past, so that we can work together to change your future, is a way that we can explore your worries and concerns.
Perhaps there are difficulties at school or college, loss of a loved one, or you're finding it hard to relate to other people or having difficulties in your current relationships? I offer somebody who is outside your current situation and who will help you to find your own solutions or answers. Often there are things from the past that can't be put to rest and still cause worry? I provide a safe, confidential and supportive environment for you to explore yourself and your concerns, as deeply as you wish. This would be a chance to change the way you interact with others, so that you get more of what you want and need out of life.
Working, in a Psychodynamic way, is how I look for possible links between your present and past situations. Some of these links may seem right to you, to explain why you might do things that are unhelpful. Once you can get some understanding of those, then you can develop the awareness that can allow you to change and do more helpful things in the future. We will learn to work together, as a team, to help you find a more satisfying future.
During the Covid-19 pandemic I am only offering online or telephone counselling.
"Zoom" has been an effective way of working, via video, for clients and myself over the last 18 months. I can provide a link which you can open in your own browser and that will take you directly into the 'waiting room', online. Zoom works on a computer (with a camera), tablet or smart phone. It is completely private, where I work, and I would rely upon you to find somewhere private, where you cannot be overheard, at home or elsewhere, for our sessions. The sessions last for 50 minutes. If you would prefer, I can also work over the telephone, by voice only.
My first session
Feeling you are with the right therapist is really important so I offer a free first session where you can meet me, ask questions & decide if this is the right therapy for you. The first, assessment, session is about finding out what has brought you to counselling. It gives us a chance to see if I feel the right kind of therapist for you, as we talk about some of the background to your situation.
If we decide to work together, then we will agree how we are going to do that, how confidentiality will work and how your data will be protected. I will send you a copy of our agreement, about confidentiality and data protection, for you to keep. Please call me or email, to book.
