About me and my therapy practice
I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, working with children, young people and adults. I offer a friendly, empathic counselling experience, where the relationship with you is at the centre of the work that we do. I allow a safe and confidential space to allow you or your child to spend time exploring their own issues. My philosophy is that EVERYONE can come to a place in their own lives where they feel OK in their own skin. My aim, when working with any client is to help you raise awareness of how you are feeling and supporting you to make the meaningful changes you desire and deserve. I am a fully registered member of the BACP, I am fully insured, have an enhanced DBS and adhere to data protection laws in relation to GDPR.
If I'm working with children and young people, I use a variety of creative media to help the child / young person to explore their inner world. This may include drawing, painting, clay, puppets, imaginative pretend play, collage, sand tray, story and books, and guided imagery.
If you are an adult looking for counselling, as an integrative counsellor, I use a variety of different ways to support you to talk about whatever it is that has brought you into the counselling room. I offer a safe space, where you’ll be treated with respect, empathy and above all as an equal where together we can nurture a safe therapeutic relationship. I offer a friendly, empathic counselling experience, where the relationship with you is at the centre of the work we do. My goal with you is to help you become your true authentic self, and to feel like you are coping better with life. When you reach out to me initially, either via email or phone call, I’ll speak to you briefly to gain a small insight into what is going on for you and what has made you contact me. This is a free consultation with no pressure to commit to further sessions. However, please know that by reaching out you will be treated with respect and can trust me to support you.
Practice description
I have my own room in a central location in the Tyne Valley (NE42) that is both child friendly and welcoming to you if you are an adult client. My room is wheelchair accessible and benefits from being accessible both day and evening times. If you are bringing a child under 18, I have a waiting area where parents / carers will be asked to wait during the session with their child / young person.
My first session
When you contact me to discuss your requirements for your child / young person or for yourself, I will explain that our first session will be an assessment meeting between myself and you. Part of this session will be to discuss your goals for counselling and we will discuss whether my counselling is suitable for your child, or for yourself. I will ensure that your questions can be answered as much as possible. During this meeting, I will outline my safeguarding and confidentiality procedures. This consultation will last 50 minutes. I will also ensure that you receive the appropriate paperwork to keep so you know what to expect from me and what I expect from clients. If we agree that counselling is suitable then we'll discuss our availability, payments, and getting the first date booked in for you. There's no pressure from me so I can guarantee I'll go at your own pace. This is your counselling journey, and I want you to feel in control as much as you can. All therapeutic sessions last 50 minutes.
