About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I am Charlotte and I'm a counsellor and psychotherapist. I am also a trauma and complex trauma professional.
Clients of mine often say they 'feel different, feel they don't fit in' or have a sense that 'they are not able to function like "normal" people'. They find daily life hard, triggering and often overwhelming.
Usually, we start by speaking about how they have been in the last few weeks & months. What they have been struggling with and how they managed to cope. We would reflect on their support system and things they enjoy doing.
How life was when they were a child and how their experience has affected them, can feel difficult, so we work at a pace that feels comfortable, there is no rush.
Starting therapy can feel scary and unnerving but we will work together on how to make you feel comfortable and safe.
Practice description
I put focus on the therapeutic relationship which means we will be working as a team to explore, process and make sense of what's happened to you and what you are struggling with.
I am offering a safe, non-judgemental space for you, in which you will be able to talk about and explore anything you want.
Our relationship would be built on respect, trust and congruence.
As a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) I adhere to their ethical framework which places a strong value in diversity and difference.
I work in a trauma-informed way as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level I & II, Complex Trauma. CCTP/CCTP II.
My first session
My initial consultations will be a 50-minute online session. During your first session, I will ask questions to understand what you're struggling with and what brought you to therapy.
We might talk about some of your past (family history & relationships) and how your symptoms or feelings are manifesting today, and how long they have been showing up. We will talk about your goals for therapy and what they mean to you.
It's perfectly normal to be nervous or anxious before your initial session and I will do my best to answer any questions you might have.
This initial consultation is a good way for you to explore if counselling, and me as your therapist, feels like the right thing for you at this time.
