About me and my therapy practice
I understand how life can come to feel too much at times; when talking to those close to you can sometimes prove difficult, leaving you feeling dissatisfied, unhappy, anxious and alone. At these times it's hard to make changes on your own and you might start to think about seeking help.
I provide a safe, confidential, professional and non-judgemental service; ensuring a comfortable place to talk, to feel heard, to explore and make sense of anything that may be troubling you.
Psychotherapy and Counselling is offered on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, depending on what seems most advisable.
For planned short term counselling we can focus on a particular problem, event or stage in life. In longer-term psychotherapy we can work together more deeply, exploring ongoing patterns of behaving and the ways you relate to yourself and others.
Working together, we can explore ongoing patterns of behaving and relating to others. You will have the freedom to explore and reflect on every aspect of your life, from some of your earlier life relationships and experiences to what is going on currently in your adult life. Understanding the link between past and present can be very helpful in bringing about new insight and change.
Areas of interest include:
- Early trauma and its long-term impact
- Harmful and Destructive Behaviour
- Sexual Problems
- Challenges in Relating to Self and Others
Experience & Expertise:
My experience in therapeutic environments extends over 18 years. It includes significant experience in Therapeutic Communities, comprising of working in a homeless community offering an alternative to residential rehabilitation and offering mental and emotional support to people with complex needs. I also have vast experience of working long term with young people and adults suffering from severe emotional difficulties, with disturbing behaviours, criminality and violence.
Training & Qualifications:
After a career in social care, I went on to train as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist at the Manor House Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy, in London. I completed a rigorous British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited training, gaining experience through seminars and clinical practice.
I continue to embark on professional development, including undertaking a two-year infant observation at the British Psychotherapy Foundation, and a year-long course at the Tavistock & Portman, looking at psychoanalytic ideas on violence, delinquency and sexual deviation.
My first session
The first step - what can I expect?
I understand how seeking therapy can feel daunting, but it is the first step.
Please contact me by phone or email and we can arrange a mutually convenient time for an initial consultation, where we can discuss what is troubling you now and gain a wider picture of your life.
This initial meeting will give you an idea of what it is like to sit with a therapist. It carries no obligation to commit, deciding the best therapy for you will require some thought and the initial session will help us with that.
Ongoing sessions last for 50 minutes and are usually held at the same time and day, for a minimum of once per week.
Initial Consultation: £65
Ongoing Sessions: We can discuss the ongoing fee at our initial consultation.
