About me and my therapy practice
I am a highly qualified counsellor, with over twenty years of experience counselling individuals, couples and families, in both the NHS and the private sector. I have worked as a counsellor, in a GP Practice, and as a Staff Counsellor within a large London NHS Trust.
I gained specialist experience in Cancer Counselling in the United States, where I worked at one of the leading US organizations providing support to those affected by cancer.
This area of work has continued to be at the heart of what I do.
A diagnosis of cancer can bring a huge amount of change and disruption into the life of the individual and their family. It is my aim, to help equip each individual I meet, whether patient or family member, to cope more effectively with the challenges they face in their diagnosis, during their treatment, and beyond.
I am an integrative counsellor, and carefully tailor the counselling sessions to each individual. I draw upon a range of therapeutic techniques, including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and relaxation in order to promote positive coping.
Above all I value the relationship between client and counsellor; and as research has shown, the single most powerful factor in effective counselling is the strength of the relationship between client and counsellor, regardless of approach.
